What's your favorite headphone? If you could only have one.

HD6XX (but I'd probably smuggle my HD600's under my jacket just because). I can never decide which I like better. It truly depends on the genre/song.

    Do headphones wear out?

I have a pair of HD600's from 1999 that still sound perfect. In fact, they sound indistinguishable to my buddy's brand new pair of new-frame HD600's once I changed the pads out. The paint on mine is worn out, the clamping force is basically gone (but oh my god they're comfy, and if you need...

    Apple AirPods Max (Over-Ear Headphones)

I stand corrected on two of my points, but no need to be rude. Apple’s official website doesn’t have a lot and as a previous Apple employee, I don’t rely on things unless it’s on apple.com

    Apple AirPods Max (Over-Ear Headphones)

No mention of replaceable parts like earpads. That’s somewhat alarming at this price point and, knowing Apple, they probably aren’t replaceable. However, I bet you can buy AppleCare so just get a replacement if something goes wrong. Good enough for a couple of years anyway until AppleCare runs...

Headphones that sound like Sennheiser HE90 Orpheus?

Absolutely. The only characteristic that the Orpheus had that the HD650 lacks is the soundstage. Imagine an HD650 with HD800S levels of soundstage and you have the basic idea of the Orpheus. I'm oversimplifying it of course, but it's the closest I can remember. I distinctly remember not being...

Headphones that sound like Sennheiser HE90 Orpheus?

I heard the Orpheus extensively at a CanJam event years ago. I think it sounds like the HD650 and HD800S had a baby. Super super beautiful midrange, silky highs, nice mid bass but a huge soundstage. Overall, an amazing headphone. I'd say a well-amped HD650 would be the closest.

    I can't decide which to keep HD600, 6XX or 660S

I had the 800S... and I just couldn’t get into them. They remind me of a super wide, super clear, less-bass version of the DT880. You’d never know they were even made by the same company that makes the HD6– line of headphones.

    I can't decide which to keep HD600, 6XX or 660S

The HD6XX and HD650 (newest chassis with squared-off edges) is identical in sound. I had both at the same time and did many blind listening tests and could not tell a single difference between the two. Maybe the clamp force was ever-so slightly less on the HD650. Maybe? That's it.

    I can't decide which to keep HD600, 6XX or 660S

I had all of them, from the HD580 all the way to the HD660S. In the end, I kept the HD58X which is very similar sounding to the 660S, but smoother with better bass and the HD6XX, which is just an HD650.

Best amp for Massdrop 6xx under $300?

I'm very happy with the Asgard 3 with my HD6XX. The Asgard 3 is ever-so-slightly V-shaped which compliments it well.

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Absolutely. All 300-ohm Sennheisers need power. On my Asgard 3, which is around 610mw@300ohm, there is zero veil. Just smooth, buttery, detailed highs.

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Your entire 33 post history is just you complaining about Sennheisers. Are you that dude on YouTube who keeps posting those incessant frequency response graphs?

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

The HD6XX/650 is whatever positive superlative you can throw at it. It’s simply astonishing, especially from a price/performance perspective. I listen to my headphones 6-8 hours per day and the 6XX are the only ones I can do that with. Comfort, and that insanely great liquid smooth sound...

Does the HD660s have any better sub-bass than HD650?

I’ve owned every HD600-line of headphone, and the ones with the “best” bass are the Hd58X Jubilee. I prefer them to the 660S by quite a margin. I still say the HD6XX/650 is the best overall but, man the 58X is fun to listen to and has an energy to it the others in the line do not.

    Where is the price/performance talk?

I have a Schiit Asgard 3 and Modius DAC playing through my MacBook Pro 16 inch and Tidal Hi-Fi. It’s magnificent!

    Where is the price/performance talk?

HD6XX, cost $220 - but with the right setup sounds just as good as any dynamic I’ve ever heard.

you must keep two headphones only

Basically purged my entire collection recently and kept HD6XX, HD58X, and DT880. Out of those, I’d honestly just keep the Senns. They’re different enough but still endearing enough to keep me interested.

    789 vs. Asgard 3

Thanks everyone! I’m leaning heavily towards the Modius/Asgard 3 stack. Anything else I should consider or am I pretty much set with that?

    789 vs. Asgard 3

I actually wanted to get the single-ended version, not balanced. I should have been more clear, sorry.

    789 vs. Asgard 3

Long-time member in one form or another. I have a fairly extensive headphone collection and want to get a new DAC/Amp combo for listening at work to my HD650/HD6XX, HD58X/HD660S, and occasionally DT880/32 through (or whatever I decide to bring that day). Mostly Sennheiser HD6-- series 99% of the...
