New tube amp: the Cayin HA-1A MK2
Hi guys, please advice as I'm totally new to tubes. I'm on a budget but I want to replace the stock Cayin branded tubes after almost a year and I have a couple of questions: Do tubes need to be necessarily a matched pair or two tubes of the same model but sold individually will do? What's the...- Sorgiulio

Sure, the post ringing... I'd forgotten about that. You say your brain can't adjust to it and I surely believe you. It would be extremely interesting to hear a scientific explanation for the claim I quoted above though, especially in light of the fact that I know brains can adjust to errors and...- Sorgiulio

Oh really? Why should we bother then and spend more money for better gear? How stupid would that be? Let's all plug a 20$ junky headphone into our phones and wait for the brain to adjust...- Sorgiulio

New tube amp: the Cayin HA-1A MK2
As far as I understand, V1 and V2 are the preamp tubes, one per channel? It would be good to know from Andy if they have to be a matched pair. I don't need to change anything right now as I'm loving it with stock tubes and my LCD2C. In the future though...- Sorgiulio

To my ears, velour pads smoothen the treble slightly but with the result of having them lose energy as well. I prefer to decrease the treble of 1-2 dB's when a record calls for it using my analogue tone control and stock pads, but that's personal taste. Surely, treble is the region where...- Sorgiulio

I have the Dekoni velour pads and I don't agree they improve the sound substantially as you say. Surely, there are pros and cons, but I don't think they improve the sound overall. Breaking the seal adds spaciousness, true, and for treble sensitive ears it helps smoothing slightly the spikes in...- Sorgiulio

I've made the rings myself with a double sided adhesive sheet and a compass cutter. I then took most of the stickiness away using a piece of fabric and now I have perfectly removable and swappable pads- Sorgiulio

New tube amp: the Cayin HA-1A MK2
Thanks talmadge. Did you notice any problem with impedance matching with the LCD2? I'm not a tech expert, I only know that tube amps have higher output impedance and my LCD-2C are a low impedance headphone. I like the fulness and musicality typical of tube amps but where I am now I can't test...- Sorgiulio

Hi, has anyone tried this amp with the LCD-2 Classic? Would it be a god pairing? I heard LCD-2C don't really like all-tube amps. Thanks!!- Sorgiulio

Yes my bad, I was mistakenly referring to the ifi nano which is £199 on amazon uk. I'm looking for an amp only since i'm using the loki with my DACs and I'm pretty happy with it. It allows me to fine tune to compensate for bad recording. DAC and portability are two features of the Micro iDSD BL...- Sorgiulio

Yes betula I copied it from a website but that's clearly a mistake, it's 1.4W per channel. I know this is enough to drive them, what I'd like to know is whether this kind of power is enough to help get the LCD-2C close to their best performance, if that makes sense. To be honest i like them...- Sorgiulio

OK, I'm convinced I need a powerful amp to do this headphone justice but I'm stuggling to find one in the 500$/£ price range that doesn't have a history of frying people's headphones. So I have two questions for you all: 1) Would an amp with 1,400mA/ch (32 ohm loaded) be powerful enough? 2) Is...- Sorgiulio

Hi, thanks for sharing your impressions. Do these pads avoid the seal and consequent air pressure on my ear I experience with the stock pads? I find that to my ears LCD2C sound much better when I break the seal with my finger. I'm not sure this has to do with the air pressure in the cup but as...- Sorgiulio

Thanks. That's what I thought too... I live in the UK and the no-card option is out of stock in the UK. It came as a wet blanket when I clicked on add to basket last night. I'll check how much is going to cost me to have it delivered from the Dutch one.- Sorgiulio

OK I convinced myself to get a powerful amp to give this headphone justice. I was going to buy the Lyr 3 but it's out of stock in Europe. Any recommendation for an alternative in the same price range? Please no Massdrop (it would cost me a fortune in taxes to import) and no DAC/amp combos. Thanks!- Sorgiulio

I eventually went for the Arcam rHead. Found a good deal for a new one here in UK and should arrive tomorrow. By reading the very few but all positive reviews of the Arcam this should be a good synergy with the LCD2C. Well, I'll have the whole weekend to find out- Sorgiulio

Thanks betula, I suspected this would be the case. So, would you say the £250 Asgard 2 or similar in the same price category is not a significant step in SQ compared to the Little Dot 1+, and I'd better save up? In this case, any recommendation for a good amp in the £500 category? Thanks- Sorgiulio

Hi guys, my current setup is McBook, Topping D10, Schiit Loki Mini, Little Dot 1+, LCD-2C. I know the D10 is a cheap one but I'm very happy with this DAC for now, same with Loki. Thanks PiSkyHiFi for your reply. As far as I understand (not much really, so I could easily be wrong) the license for LDAC encoding has always been free, which makes sense since this would encourage players' makers to include LDAC in their codecs offer. The problem comes with the decoding...- Sorgiulio
