Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

Funny that you mention HD560S as I was discussing with a reddit user that he could not get his HD560S to sound right with SXFI. Though the user was concerned with frequency response being wrong while the surround effect was good. Never heard any planar with SXFI. K702 with K701 sounds good to...

I was wrong, I was not able to use K371 with Unknown In-Ear profile and compensate for the reduced high treble using the GC7 on-board equalizer. Instead, I preferred the Unknown Headphone profile with -3 dB at 31 Hz. Still a lot of sub-bass though. If anyone else is interested in their FR...

As promised I provide some more Fr captures from SXFI. Both images use 1/24th octave smoothing for readability. First image is Gen3 vs Gen2. Gen2 clearly has more energy above 10k, but a bigger dip at 9k, and that wasn't very nice to listen to. Second image is the Unknown Headphone profile vs...

Awesome, really glad you like it:-) I saw no announcement of Gen3 really, which surprised me as it is an improvement to me too. Did some more experimentation with SXFI today. Adding 2-3 dB to 8-16kHz and reducing 2-4 kHz by 1-2 dB makes the sound more pleasant to my ears, on K371 (Unknown...

I think you're right. I'm actually thinking of uploading the default and my preset to HeSuVi once Creative fixes the 7.1 issues.

You're right, that's what happens in an overview. Likely the SXFI dsp does convolution with impulse responses that you download from your online profile to the device. Just guessing:) Because of that, they can keep improving it like you wrote. I wish they would offer some kind of calibration...

Let me know if you like it more than Gen2. I don't have my measurements from Gen2 anymore but I can share the frequency response from the Front Left speaker to the left ear for my Gen3 profile. I measured GC7 with SXFI in the following scenarios: 1. With HD650 profile. 2. With K701 profile...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

There are some bugs with SXFI on GC7 and they have to address them in firmware updates. The way SXFI / Out of your head / HeSuVi works is that for each speaker in a 7.1 setup, there is a pair of impulse responses - to left ear and to right ear. Ideally, this impulse response should be a...

I just measured GC7 frequency response in three scenarios. See attached graph. 1. Connected through a 3.5mm -> 2x 3.5mm splitter to line in (presumably 10 kOhm) and K371 (32 Ohm) 2. Connected through a 3.5mm -> 2x 3.5mm splitter to line in and nothing in the other 3.5mm jack. 3. Connected...

Never heard the G6 but I second that SXFI is great for games. With PS5 being scarcely available and expensive at that, upgrading the sound can also elevate your experience to a new level. There are many new exciting room virtualization apps and plugins, even free one like HeSuVi for PC use, but...

I measured GC7 headphone out using a loop from the headphone out to line in. Results were very good, with SNR at ~110 dB, low THD, crosstalk below 80 dB, almost flat FR (just ~0.5 dB increase from 10 kHz to 20 kHz if I remember right). Goes to 2.4V RMS before clipping. I doubt that you can...

    Creative Super X-Fi headphone holography

Anyone else noticed Gen3 was introduced? I retook my photos this week and my profile is now marked as Gen3. In my case the huge dip at 8-9 kHz is gone and the lower treble (4 kHz) is less pronounced. The 150 - 300 Hz is still recessed though. Now it sounds more correct with K702 using K701...

It's actually surprisingly powerful with over 2V RMS output. See review. That's 108 dB at low distortion with DT990 250 Ohm. Enough for decent volume with SXFI and some equalization included.

Great review! As you mention EQing these headphones, there is also a very nice set of measurements / parametric EQ settings made by Oratory1990 on his reddit page. Sounds a bit dark to me, but with few db boost in band 5 they hit the sweet spot for me.

Koss KSC75's. Dont Forget This Giant Killer in all the ''Hidden Gem'' Hype.

I just noticed that on 18th December Oratory1990 published measurements of KSC75 along with customizable parametric EQ settings for obtaining the Harman Over-Ear target. I tried them and love the sound so far! Highly recommended to check his eq presets for other headphones as well if you are not...

    Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6

To be honest the faulty gapless on MP3 didn't bother me much. IMO if there is a technical limitation that prevents true gapless on mp3 on M0, I'd rather have a small pause but no cutoff at the end of the file. Sometimes music matters to the last millisecond of the track :-)

    Knowledge Zenith (KZ) impressions thread

I had ZSN pro (my first KZ) and moved on to ZS7. These two are very different and are fantastic value to me. ZS7 is superior bit I do miss the ZSN pro's upfront treble and how it accentuated the little details in sound. ZSN pro: strongly elevated treble creates a sensation of superb detail...

Use the folder playback mode and enable "folder skip" in the playback settings. Playback will start in the next folder once last track in the current folder finishes.

    KZ ZSN Pro

After some more listening, I settled down on the bundled silicone tips with the small incisions near the ear-facing end of the tip. Those tips are slightly narrower and have a longer tube and the sound I perceive from them is not as aggressive in the highs (but definitely bright, there's no...

    Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6

The new custom EQ would be much better if there was a manual or automatic pre-amp to prevent clipping. It sounds good but is really tiresome to set up something like bass boost + treble cut, having to align all the dots in the mid range at the same level

Thanks, I was contemplating spirals or spinfits, though they cost half the price of ZSN Pros here. Which spiral dot model do you use? There's few of them.

    KZ ZSN Pro

After spending some more time listening, the treble spike does bother me. It's not exactly unpleasant, but often certain percussive sounds are stealing the focus. After some more listening with the provided foam tips from KZ, they still sound very clear but more balanced. But I don't like the...

    KZ ZSN Pro

Just got these yesterday and I'm very impressed. Comparing to Mee P1 (MSRP $200), KZN Pro have way better bass response, a bit more laid-back midrange (this creates soundstage depth to me, not a bad thing actually) and a bit over-emphasized highs. This adds some "shimmer" (for the lack of a...

    Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6

High impedance HPs being difficult to drive is a common misconception repeated here again and again. Often there is not enough voltage range in battery-operated devices to get sufficient power at higher impedances - is that what you mean? High impedance headphones don't need much current and...

Do you have a particular issue with HD6XX 's sound that you'd like to address? M0 has enough power to drive HD6XX to very loud levels. Full 2V RMS output equals to 114.25dB. As high impedance phones HD6XX don't need much current either. If you need louder, without spending much money, FiiO E10K...
