Whats wrong with my DT-880, bought a LD-MKIII and can't hear a difference

Sounds like you're more into the Grado sound than the dt880. Maybe sell the 880's and invest in a higher end Grado (225, 325 perhaps)?

Anyone have the Grado 325is or RS-1i?

I have the new silver 325i and they're worth every penny, in my opinion. Superb headphones that really benefit from decent amplification and source. Do you have any specific questions about them and the RS1i?

Little Dot MkIII vs Grado RA1 for SR325is

I cannot speak of the 325i+RA1 combo, but I can comment excessively on the 325i (new, silver edition w/ bowls) with the Little Dot MKIII with Mullard M8100 tubes... ... but to keep this short: it's a wicked combination. The bass is just perfect with this combination, offering me...

Depeche Mode~ Sounds Of The Universe

I picked up the 2xLP+CD edition. I think it's their best album overall. Worst song on it is "Wrong," interestingly enough. Favorites at the moment are "Peace," "Come Back," "Jezebel," "In Sympathy," and "Fragile Tension." I think if you liked Playing The Angel, you should probably find a lot of...

    G, G+, VG, VG+, NM, M-, M. Vinyl.

After buying a fair amount of vinyl sight unseen on ebay, I came to the conclusion that, on average, anything listed as "VG+" was really "G-" or worse, and not to be purchased unless it was less than $3 with shipping and I really, really couldn't find any other copies. Stuff listed as NM or...

Inside the Moodlab DAC [56k no]

I've had the Moodlab concept DAC for about a year with a couple thousand hours on it as everything I listen to is fed through it. I can write a detailed review with my setup if people like? (DT880 '05 250ohm vs. Grado SR60 stock vs. Sennheiser HD580 + 600-grills + 650-cable, LD MKIII w/...

Little Dot MKIII and Extra Tubes or MKIV

The LD MkIII with some money spent on tubes is a great idea and a lot of fun, and, more importantly, allows you to slightly tweak the sound of the amp for your headphone of choice. I vote LD MkIII and two or three sets of good, well-known tubes: -- Mullard M8100 (can be expensive, but...

    Sennheiser 580 and ????

I definitely recommend the 325i's given your opinion of the HD580. Having a Grado and a Sennheiser in the stable is a great idea (rockin' the same idea, myself, along with a Beyerdynamics DT880 for primary music reproduction duties )

If you like any form of rock, you need to hear Oceansize

All three of their albums are great, but I think they really go somewhere with the first three or four tracks off their latest album, "Frames." Unfortunately, I don't think they have any US distribution for 'Frames' so it's pretty expensive to import here. Worth every penny, imo, however.

Frost - Experiments In Mass Appeal

I've not heard milliontown, but this "Experiments In Mass Appeal" is simply fantastic. Not a bad song on it. Really fresh sounding to me, in a time when a lot of rock-based music sounds tired and old.

Help: How to replace pads for DT880 (03)

no, you'll really want to call beyerdynamic somehow and get the right pads for the dt880/990. The ones for the dt770 (which are widely available and look the same) are not the same and will change the sound. Search here on headfi for discussion of this. It is a huge pain in the ass to get the...

Vinyl lovers! Which cans are most forgiving (and unforgiving) to surface noise??

You want something with veiled/recessed highs.. If I break out headphones with my vinyl setup I reach for the Sennheiser HD580.

Can someone school me on some Tech-House?

Don't think I'd classify Richie Hawtin as tech-house.. more along the lines of straight detroit techno and one of the pioneers of minimal house, with his live sets range somewhere between the two extremes over the last few years. As for tech-house as I know it, Eddie Richards comes to mind...

    Thievery Corporation - Radio Retaliation

This came out yesterday. I've only given it one listen so far: more focused and obviously a lot more political (as TC stated it would be), though none of the tracks have really caught me yet ("Mandala" is pretty interesting). What are peoples impressions so far?

    favorite Dream Theater album?

I was really looking forward to FIF coming out, but a bit cautious due to it being the first full album with Derek. In short, I was let down at the time. Saw them live on that tour (at the maritime hall, SF) and eventually some stand out tracks from that album grew on me: "New Millennium" is one...

What is driving the Little Dot phenomenon?

No one likes to see a community they're intimately involved with deteriorate. However, the cause they're fighting for here--to help people make informed decisions apart from...
