**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**
If you really want to make the HE400's sing get the HiFiman balanced cable and use a SCHIIT MJOLNIR balanced headphone amplifier, to my ears this sounds fantastic although I still need a slight 3db boost between 2 to 5 kHz to sound best, by theway having tried the velour pads I have reverted...- Mikeb

Schiit Mjolnir headphone amplifier
I recently bought a Mjolnir headphone amp to drive my HE400's (I also use my balanced DT880s as well) and they sound brilliantly with it, no noise or hum, volume pot is typically around 9oclock to 11oclock position, my headphones have the HiFiman balanced cable fitted with a 4 pin xlr, I still...- Mikeb

Just bought the balanced leads from HiFiman for the HE400s, bass control better with a smoother and more open midrange when compared to the standard factory lead, overall sound signature simialr to original so not a major stepup but certainly worth having, the lead by the way is much more...- Mikeb

Can anyone suggest a good balanced cable for the HE400s it must come with a 4pin xlr connection to match my amp, not too expensive and available either as an import or available locally within the UK. Also has anyone carried out any mods to the HE400s with angling the ear speakers away...- Mikeb

best amp for hd 800
I tried a Woo SA6 but didn't find it to my liking, lacking some drive, so I tried my Little Dot V11 and found plenty of drive but sound a little bright, then tried my old Consonance Cyber20, this proved to be the best all round with the nice EL84 output triodes connected amply driving the HD800s...- Mikeb

Is it worth upgrading to the Audio Technica WTH W5000s from the WTH W1000
Thanks to everyone for their replies, I think I will stay with my ATH W1000's as I do like them very much and overall I think they are the best of my present haedphones which comprise ATH AD1000, Ultrasone Pro 900 and Beyer DT880 (balanced connection), I was only considering the ATH W5000 as I...- Mikeb

Go for Lynx AES16?
I have one of these Lynx soundcards along with a RME 9632 (in different computers) both cards are very good regarding sound, the RME tends to be cheaper to buy and has very good drivers, it also has many different outputs available, including digital/headphone/analogue, whereas the Lynx is...- Mikeb

Musiland 02 USB or Audio-GD FUN
I have both musiland 02 and pro900 headphones, although the combination will work, I believe it is best to use a proper headphone amplifier to drive the pro900 headphones and use the musiland to output the signal source to the amplifier, I personally use a Little Dot V11 amplifier with good results- Mikeb
