Low-Bitrate Audio Comparison
I will probably try to write a separate review for AAC later. AAC is a lot different than MP3, Ogg, or WMA in that I don't have a player for Pocket PC, and I have also heard that the compression quality is flaky. I am currently experimenting with the PsyTEL encoder. It claims to be the best one...- elgoog

Low-Bitrate Audio Comparison
OK, so continuing my previous post about music compression for Pocket PC, I am posting the results of my own few tests. My test equipment/media consisted of: Toshiba e335 Pocket PC with WMP and PocketMVP, some cheap Philips AY3682 PCDP cans, and the music was Hotel California (live edition...- elgoog

Pocket PC MP3/Ogg/MP3Pro/WMA?
Yes, I use PocketMVP, and I actually have put an entire 15 minutes of the Simpsons on my e335. Playback quality does degrade over time though, I suppose it's because your cache is being used up or something. I tested the quality of 32Kbps WMA vs 32Kbps MP3Pro, and WMA wins hands down for...- elgoog

Pocket PC MP3/Ogg/MP3Pro/WMA?
WMP for Pocket PC supports MP3Pro, WMA, and MP3, and I can get a player that supports ogg easily. A couple of more questions. Are there any other compression schemes I should look at? Also, what program provides the best conversion quality?- elgoog

Pocket PC MP3/Ogg/MP3Pro/WMA?
I have a Toshiba e335 with which I am VERY happy. I have about 30 MB to burn for MP3s, so I am curious what I should use for the best compression quality for the size. Of course, I would like to fit at least one album on this space, and no, extra memory is not an option. What format...- elgoog

What are your favorite Websites (aside from Head-Fi)?
One of my favorites is LiQUiDGENERATION (www.liquidgeneration.com). I know that the flash stuff is a killer, but try the sabotage sections on your friends! you'll get a kick out it, i promise.- elgoog

Palm Tungsten PDA
I have a palm m100, so i definitely feel for all you 2MB Zire people. I also have a Toshiba e335 which I got (okay, well my parents got for me) on sale at Office Depot for $250. New! That's at least $150 off retail! I'm definitely satisfied with it, it comes with 64MB (although winCE apps do...- elgoog

Heehee, this is all very entertaining. Fortunately I am not a lady! A knot is in the desert and wants something to drink. What do you think of the RIAA?
I'm glad Hilary Rosen finally stepped down. Maybe it was because she realized her kids were using KaZaA, or maybe it was because she realized that it was an unending fight. At any rate, most people I know (including myself) download music just to try out an album, and then go out and buy it...- elgoog

Hearing Loss: Aging & Noise Exposure Effects
I read something on slashdot a couple of months back: http://science.slashdot.org/article....12&mode=thread Basically, it might be due to the fact that mp3s and stuff strip off stuff we supposedly can't hear, and that we start believing that what's coming out of the cans are the actual thing...- elgoog

Headsets?
My cheap $10 headset (that i use a lot) just broke, so I have an opportunity (sorry, oppressive parents...) to get a new headset. Why not use digital?
I must concede that you all are truly quality freaks . 0.1% quality increase must mean a lot. BTW, CD quality=650 MB per 74 Min = 0.146396396396 MB/sec. At any rate, thanks for all your enlightening posts! P.S. I'm not out to make friends here. All I wanted was to clear up some...- elgoog

Why not use digital?
Why not build an amp with a D/A chip? And besides, why are all the D/A convertors all of you mentioned so expensive? PCDPs have D/A chips, yet even a moderately good one costs well under $500. A lot of MD players have optical connects too, and the ones I've looked at cost $300 max.- elgoog
