The Nighthawk has been doing a lot better on different tubes but I'm really liking the CV491 12AU7.    So I shared my opinion on the Ether thread and got bashed for it haha. It's amazing, you share an opinion about a headphone and on here they act like you've killed their mother.   I think I...

Have you tried the newer HD650?

What mod did you do?   I know other forums use the quarter mod. I didn't really like it as it leaned everything out a bit too much for me. I love the stock forum and just let me gear do the work rather than mods.    Give them a go, stock if you don't like them you can always return them if...

The Ether I used out of the Mojo to Project Ember. I also tried on the Schiit Asgard II and Lyr. I personally don't like Dans tunings so don't really trust his ears when it comes to tuning headphones but I heard a lot about the Ether and went into it with an open mind. I loved everything about...

It's treble is disgusting, I think the Nighthawk is better also than HE560. It's a shame you sold the HD650 before trying it with the Mojo. If you are happy with the NH stick with it :)

Honestly I'm gutted for you that you didn't get to hear the true HD650. The HE560 is a step down from the HD650 and HE-500 it's a horrible headphone.

The HD650 doesn't really have any audible distortion. The problem is the dragonfly DAC and amp. Even if you have a good amp, it will just amplify what your DAC is putting out. The Dragonfly also doesn't have a line out.

Prob because the Dragonfly can't drive the HD650, at all. If the HD650 lack weight then something is wrong.

That would come down to your gear to be honest with the HD650. The Nighthawk is also sensitive to gear but the HD650 more so I find. I agree with false air in a lot of headphones. The Mrspeakers Ether which honestly, is a load of crap has false air and just exaggerated areas it really...

Borrowed my friends Ether and compared them to my HD650. I felt like the Ether was very easily powered. It is built so well, probably the best built headphone I've seen. Sadly the sound, just doesn't cut it for the price. I felt the Ether and HD650 where about equals. The bass impact was better...

That's true for some open backs are they are exaggerated in the treble and uppers. That gives some vocals an artificial timbre, like the AKGs. Headphones like the HD650 or LCD-2 pre fazor do not exaggerate any of the FR. Closed headphones sound more constricted and artificial in the voices...

I'm not really a fan of closed headphones for vocals. I'm very sensitive to how voices sound and I don't here any air or breathiness to the voices it's all very warm and the micro detail is really lacking. They remind of of how the D5000 did voices but much warmer. I know a lot of people say...

I really don't know where you are hearing this vocal airiness. The mids are very closed in, like a closed headphone. The HE-500 is one of the most open, speaker like headphones I've heard and it is a cut above the Nighthawk in all aspects. Selling my HE-500 was one of my biggest mistakes as...

Think it's all in people's heads to be honest. My Nighthawk has been replaced 3 times, had 2 here at one point. Both sounded the same. Thing is the signature takes getting used to. Once you are used to it things start getting more open. When I switch to other phones, boom, they are congested...

You actually believe in that rubbish? The Nighthawk will sound the same regardless just like any headphone after a day or less use.

The Nighthawk has been scaling a bit on better gear, it's still the same signature tonight but there's some separation improvements. The mids still have hay boxy feeing though, that's due to the semi closed design plus the tuning. The HD650, this thing is a beast. It just keeps improving. It...

Various tubes mainly 12AU7 Mullard. Has more detailed, clean mids than other tubes. The Ember seems to tighten the bass up for me. The Ember can be very lush so it does depend on the tube I suppose. I personally find the high power of the Ember helps the Nighthawks bass.

The Ember is also probably the best match I've heard with the NH.

Ito appears it does yes. I think it's harder to pin point due to the hump. That NH graph actually looks a bit better than than LCD-2 graph. I've seen better examples of the LCD-2 graph and worse examples of the NH graph. I slightly prefer Marves measurements as they tend to reflect what I hear a...

The Chord Dacs are a rip off I think anyone who pays that much for a Hugo is pretty crazy. I had a Hugo for a good few months on a loan and had the hands to buy it at a discount price. I turned it down as it was too lean, analytical and the SQ was lacking. The Valhalla 2 is ok but my Project...

I personally don't quite get how a huge bass hump and recessed uppers can bring emotion. I don't get no emotion from the NH, just boom boom. Emotion comes from the voice, the tone of the music. The LCD-2 too thick? It's a straight line up until the upper mids where is gently rolls off. It's...

Yesterday I compared the Nighthawk to the LCD-2 2013. I wanted to compare the bass mainly but ended up switching between them for a while. I started with the Audeze. Bass went down to 20hz no problem. Bass was more textured, more defined. NH was extended but I didn't think it went down to...
