New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

DT900 Pro X is in. From my listening impressions it seems as if the DT900 Pro X is a more laid back DT 990 Pro 250ohm, with less of a V shaped response. The highs in the 6-8k region seem to be tamed down a little bit, (not a lot) to a more comfortable level for most folks. - Maybe 1-3db down...

    Topping A90

Either way I'd say that both amps are pretty awesome amps. We are in a golden age of budget equipment!

    Topping A90

If I was on a budget and using cans that are easy/medium difficulty to drive then I'd go with the 789. Otherwise the A90 just improves over the 789 in every respect. - Build quality, measurements, power output, sound, (imo) pre-amp, etc.

    Topping A90

You know, I have to agree with you on the Jotunheim assessment. At the time when the Jotunheim came out I thought it was amazing, detailed, revealing, a true bargain at the price. But after directly A/B'ing it with my Benchmark HPA-4 awhile back it was clear that the Jotunheim was extremely...

    Topping A90

I've been testing a few of my difficult to drive cans with the A90 and so far it has surpassed my expectations. To test full power I've gone from using single-ended/RCA operation to running the A90 fully balanced with my D90. So far the Susvara running off of the fully balanced A90 has been the...

    Topping A90

I wouldn’t go as far as saying balanced connections are a requirement for hiss free operation. As I said a few posts ago, I’m currently using single-ended rca connections from my D90 to my A90 with single ended headphones and I’m not getting any hiss. The way I’m interpreting it is that...

    Topping A90

Definitely sounds like either a ground-loop or defective unit. I am running RCA in and out on the A90 with absolutely zero noise issues on either end. - Studio monitors are sounding great!

Empty wallet :triportsad: I am accepting donations if your Ether 2 is collecting dust! I’ve been looking at the Hifiman Arya though as a filler potential before Empyrean/Susvara. Surprisingly enough adding the M-Scaler tamed the Beyerdynamic T1 so that they aren’t as hard to deal...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

My M-Scaler came in today so this will be brief. Guys.... I've never heard digital music sound so good. Bass lines are easy to follow and down right addicting. Nothing is blurred, every cymbal has texture, every impact has a start and stop. Sound stage is enveloping, a tenfold ahead, voices...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I just bought the M-Scaler too. I haven't demoed it so I have no idea what I'm getting myself into. Luckily from all the praise that I've seen over the past year it seems like the M-Scaler will be sublime with my TT-2.

Announcing the Audeze LCD-GX, the First Audiophile Gaming Headphone

I ordered my GX last week and got it quite quickly! It's leaving me quickly too, not a fan of the mid-centric sound. GX is definitely my least favorite of the LCD line, I've heard them all. Audeze did do a great job with the weight though, super comfortable compared to the other LCD...

Thanks for your concern. I am very aware that the placement is far from ideal, this is not the final resting place.

Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Zu Audio Omen Dirty Weekend MK.II have arrived into my system. I’m using just the TT-2 to power them and so far I haven’t had to go past -10 on high gain mode. I definitely could see some quieter classical recordings needing maybe a bit more juice. But as far as I’m concerned the TT-2 can push...

Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Looking at some of the Zu offerings even though they are controversial from what I’ve seen. I don’t really care so much about the absolute accuracy of my 2 channel as much as headphones. I just want to jam and have fun with 2 channel. Also some efficient Klipsch offerings seem intriguing. I’m...

Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Made some 10ft speaker cables to hook into the TT-2. The whole build ended up costing right around $30. Now I just need some speakers! Decisions... decisions.... Stellar all in one solution for headphone use. Want to take it a step further? Add the M-Scaler. Done. No fluff. You're welcome.

Schiit Modi Multibit - upgrade to what?

Well if you are pleased with the Schiit R2R sound signature you could always go for a Yggdrasil. There are plenty second hand or b-stock that will be in your price range. Otherwise if you want to save money and get a FPGA based dac the Chord Qutest is wonderful. I prefer the Qutest to the Yggy...

Meze EMPYREAN - the First Isodynamic Hybrid Array Headphone

The basis of my prior reply was pointed toward a hypothetical situation. In the event that there was in fact a half price Empyrean with crappy build quality I wouldn't care about resale value of my real Emp or think that the Emp isn't worth what I paid. I would just be bummed out that the same...

Meze EMPYREAN - the First Isodynamic Hybrid Array Headphone

I think if Meze releases a headphone with the same drivers as Empyrean at half price there might be a few disgruntled people... I know I personally wouldn't be too happy, even if it was built with cheaper cup materials. New pads that have been confirmed are pretty exciting though, would hope to...

    WORST headphone you ever heard?

The worst "Hifi" headphone I've used was the Grado PS1000. The only music that sounded even moderately acceptable on the PS1000 was music from the 1940s and 1950s. The rest was just terrible. Anemic bass that was muddy as all hell, disjointed slow treble, "meh" mid-range, and a complete lack...
