Waw. There were 300 of these made and there are two on the market right now? That seems ridiculous to me. I would have thought one pops up maybe every two years or so at the most. Maybe they're not all they're cut out to be.- b17m4p

When was last Orpheus on the market
Just curious about when, where and for how much it went for. Not that I'm at all in any position to look to buy one purely a curiosity/day-dreaming driven question. I don't think I've ever seen one for sale; although I don't really browse classifieds too often unless I'm looking for something...- b17m4p

Neverending dilemma: k701 vs HD650
I really think that when people talk of the extremely expansive soundstage of the 701s they are deceiving those thinking about buying them. They do have good separation but in my opinion its not the type of out of head experience you might expect based on what you read - and I did try them with...- b17m4p

Thats obviously true and I'm pretty sure nobody is arguing against it. The issue is whether the curve of diminishing returns converges at a relatively lower price point then for other components - which some people think it does. A side issue we're discussing is weather digital sources improve...- b17m4p

So... What are your portable systems like?
Btw I thought I would just throw in there; while I like my UE11s, and I think they sound quite good I do ultimately regret the purchase. They're not that great that they make me stop wondering about other things and the money is completely sunk. Probably should have saved the money to start...- b17m4p

Whats the deal with audio dealers?
^ uh oh Dealers should adapt to a new climate. Not because they're wrong about people stealing their time being immoral; but because it's simply going to happen and being upset about it is just like shaking your fist at the rain. Thats also my opinion about the recording industry but thats...- b17m4p

So... What are your portable systems like?
UE11 straight out of ipod. I had an imod at one point a predator and a hornet, and even before i was using IEMs i didn't really think they were worth it both in terms of price and the inconvenience of having to carry the amps around.- b17m4p

How many highschoolers, college students, grad schoolers, working adults?
First year grad in math department at RPI in Troy NY. Grad students should all list what you're studying. Undergrads don't bother. You'll probably change your mind and its not like you learn anything anyway. jk- b17m4p

I have not herd that many digital sources, but JUST in terms of public opinion (as in user reviews, professional reviews and what gets said over and over on forums) of digital sources (and NOT my experience) I think Erik is totally right. From Loudspeakers to Headphones exclusively ?
i think intimacy, in terms of audio ,means different things to different people. for some sound stage and that type of immersive experience is imperative to a sound they would call intimate; you won't get that with almost any headphones (with none I've herd).- b17m4p

Whats the deal with audio dealers?
Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm in grad school right now so I'm living with the best headphone rig I can afford; but eventually I would like to own an absolutely world class speaker setup and a dedicated listening room. I think for these things having a good relationship with a dealer one...- b17m4p

Starting with the best...
I wonder if anybody here started with high end right away but sortof did it the right way. Went to meets, auditioned a ton of gear, etc. instead of just relaying on reviews. If there is someone like that I would like to know how it worked out for you? For me this would be to difficult. It was...- b17m4p

Non-US Head-fi'ers, express your >.< feelings here!
Guess it would be a good time for us head-fiers to get some gear from europe etc. I usually end up buying us made things, not an ideology just the way it seems to work out so I don't even really know how I'd take advantage of this. Whats the deal with audio dealers?
Whats the deal with audio dealers? I'm wondering if some audiophile veterans can clue me in on what goes on behind the scenes. Best 500GB External Hard-drive Option (in UK)?
There's kindof two conflicting factors. On the one hand you want something with a fan because it will tend to make the drive last longer. On the other for audio this might be not desirable since it adds to noise. In the long term I think the best solution for audio is to have a network attached...- b17m4p
