I prefer the 701's to the 650's on all of the above units.

"ZD"= Zana Deux. Not balanced, but sounds more real to me the the Balanced Headroom units.

Just had a few minutes to listen to an hour warmed up ZD hooked up to my only available source, iRiver H340 with high bit rate mp3s. Even these sound really nice. Can't wait to try it with my MacBkP apple lossless>Cosecant>ZD>701's or S650's.

Waiting on a Zana. Using a Headroom DT Maxed with pretty good results. What do expect the differnce with the Zana will be?

Cost is the big difference in the above approaches. Even a Headroom BitHead maybe a cost effective and convenient external USB Dac/amp.

Two very different SQ approaches: have you tried simple line out to the amp? The digital out to an external DAC will most likely give better SQ. Optical out likely better than USB. In my experience Macbook Pro>itunes ALL>USB >DT Maxed +Max Dac>701or 650=very very nice. (Better than WinXP WMA LL via Jriver/ASIO), BUT, add in the Wavelength Cosecant USB DAC and its now FABULOUS!! I'm now wondering how much better a Balanced Home Maxed out would add to these combinations.

Hummmmm, so should my MacBook Pro running WinXP via bootcamp allow my Cosecant to sound as good as using iTunes out of MBPro Mac OS?

For what it worth, My MacBookPro (5/07, not lattest) via iTunes ALL feeding a Cosecant USB tube Dac sounds somewhat better than the same files played via JRiver Media Center (on a WinXP) with ASIO driver to by pass KMixer. The difference is not, however, vast.
