Unfortunately, I only heard the Ether with the micro iDSD, but I just got a Chord Mojo to use with my LCD-X, and it's quite the significant upgrade over the iDSD in my humble opinion....

Helpful info! But I should've been clearer in my original post, the question I intended to ask is, is it possible to get into a good electrostatic setup for less than $3000? Currently I have an LCD-X and and iFi Micro iDSD, and was debating whether I should jump ship from planar to electrostats.

I just returned my Ether open a few days ago, it was a little too bright for me(I found it slightly fatiguing, I have somewhat sensitive ears). How would you compare the L700 to the Ether as far as sound signature goes?

I would say it's the most balanced headphone I've heard since I got the 1.1 foam in. Before it was bright to me, but now it sounds very, very pleasant. Definitely shows a poor recording still though. But based on my ears, it sounds more balanced than my HD650, LCD-X and my previously owned HD800.

I agree. I admire it because it's functional. I carried it through the airport with absolutely no worries. The Ether case is pretty nice though, but I would be glad if Dan offered a pelican case option as well. Just a thought!

Just want to chime in here and say speakers actually can be neutral. By nature of the way they are measured relative to the way we hear, and with room correction you can measure to verify. Still though, a flat frequency response still might not sound very good to one person compared to another...

I use the micro iDSD with my Ether O, and really appreciate the "X-Bass" option. Helps the bottom end IMO. I know the Ether C has a bit more bottom end as it is though.
