I'd give the K702 a thumbs down.. they are more music-specific than a lot of stuff and most of their big fans are people putting as much or more into their amp than the headphones. And yeah, if portable is a concern - they are wide open.. not what you want.

So I have the HD600, HD650, DT770 250ohm, and the Sextetts are on their way. I will probably end up selling or trading either the 600 or the 650 at some point.   Because I am building a Crack amp which is best paired with 100ohm or higher headphones, I'm trying to figure out what I may like...

Interesting. Well my sextett's haven't arrived yet, so I have never really gotten a close look at the pads at all.

If you are open to the cost of the HD800 but haven't taken amping into consideration yet, I'd say go for the K501 or HD650 used and spend the rest of your budget on amping them. The K501 and HD650 both have to be better than the HD800 if they are amped and the 800 is not. And I don't know if you...

If you want them to sound OK (much better than unamped but still not reaching their potential).. you'd probably be happy with a decent CMOY amp driving them (less than 50 bucks). I have experience with this on the DT770 250ohm. Yeah it could be better, but it's still far better than no amp.
