Cloud service for backup-storage of your music collection?

What is a good provider of cloud storage for a music collection (on a Windows computer)? I have Google Drive, but I notice that it has trouble downloading a large complex directory structure if you want to recover things. (The Google Drive support forums complain about this constantly.) I also...

Connecting 2 USB DACS to the same Windows (10) computer?

Can I just connect 2 USB DACs to my Windows 10 computer and simply switch between them in Windows using the Windows Sound dialog box? (This would be just like when I switch between my Chord DAC and my internal sound card.) I of course would have the drivers for both DACs. I read about Jriver...

Service to save a few vinyl discs as FLAC files?

I have a few LPs that I would like converted to FLAC files. I have no turntable. Any recommendations for a service for this would be great. Thank you for any suggestions.

Music Server vs. ripped files on a computer? Sonic benefits?

As the title says, am I missing something by just using ripped files on my computer as opposed to using a dedicated music server like an Aurender or an Innuos/Zenith? (FYI, I use a Chord DAVE and a Windows PC with external solid state drives for my music storage.) Thanks.

How to get headfi to stop sending an email on every new reply to subscribed threads

Long ago, I must have approved head-fi to send me an email alert whenever there was a new reply to a thread I posted in. How do I suspend this? Thanks.

    Big listening desk/station?

Any recommendations for a big desk where you could have a computer, several components, a computer, and also a pair of smallish monitor speakers? And maybe even a small power conditioner? If you have a 2-box amp, a DAC (and maybe even a transport like a Chord Blu2), it can get really crowded...

    Playback Designs DACs?

Any impressions or experience with these? I had their first product, the MPS5 cd player for a while back in 2009 and I was impressed, especially with the SACD performance. I ask because there are not a lot of DACs that handle DSD files natively. (Just the Holo Spring and the Luxman DA06 come to...

Fine adjustments to volume if amp's stepped volume control too coarse?

Is there a way to use Jriver (or other software) to make fine adjustments to volume when the stepped volume control on a headphone amplifier has too-wide steps? Does anyone do this without degrading the sound quality too much? Thank you.

    Has USB3 become a bust?

It seems that nobody has the stomach for non-standard USB connectors anymore and therefore USB3 is being rejected by consumers in audio and elsewhere. So is USB3 DOA? (And if you pay up for a premium USB cable, this can be a serious deal-breaker. I don't see any audio component maker using it.)

DAC for more challenged, fatiguing older recordings (like the new streamed Beatles).

With the new release of Beatles music on streaming, I thought it would be a good time to ask about which DAC best handles older recordings that can be fatiguing in digital, especially with glare in vocals or the  upper midrange/lower treble in general. Often, the most resolving DAC processing...

    Perfect family of headphones.

What is your idea of a good family of headphones to have and why? (A family here meaning a set of different headphones that are worth having simultaneously for the long term and complement each other.) Remember it's not the size that counts.

Very cool running amp for a desktop?

I'm looking for suggestions for a very cool-running high end desktop amp for a desktop where the amp is very near you and you don't want it to generate much heat at all? Thanks.

    Follow-up reviews after selling.

I wish people who write long detailed reviews highly praising a product would always write a follow-up review, however short, if they later sell the item. It would help explain things to readers who are curious about an older-production or used piece of equipment.

    Lucy Simon (Carly's sister).

Lucy Simon had a really nice album in 1975 (just called by her name). For some reason, it only ever existed in vinyl and is out of print in every form. Someone finally posted some of the songs on youtube. Give it a listen if you don't mind. Thanks. Here are a couple of songs from it...

Has anyone used "Full Music" tubes? Thanks.

Tone Audio mentions them here: http://www.tonepublications.com/review/tj-music-full-music-vacuum-tubes/   So does 6moons in an Eddie Current review: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/eddiecurrent3/2.html   As far as I can see, you have to buy them from "Sun Wu's" store on...

Cambridge Audio Azur 752BD Universal Disc Player

Any thoughts on this player, mainly in terms of sound quality with headphones/headphone amps, especially vs. the Oppo 105BD ?

Why would anyone want just one headphone?

I often hear people here say that they prefer to just have one headphone as their ultimate choice. I just could never relate to this idea. All phones bring different things to the table sonically (and even comfort-wise). All phones have their strengths and weaknesses, and the flagship phones...

    Original Headroom Max anyone?

I recently pulled my 13 year old 1st generation Headroom Max out of the closet to use on my desk and I'm surprised how fine it is with modern flagship headphones. Anyone else out there still using theirs? Anyone compared it to some of the newer popular mainstream amps? [ It's this little guy...

Modest proposal for Audeze LCD3 comfort.

I love the sound of my LCD3s more than anything and they are now my main go-to phone over TH900s, 009s, HD800s, and more, but I really wish Audeze would offer alternative pads that would not be so extremely lopsided from back to front.   The pads are much much thicker in the back so that...

Why everyone should have a Grado as their 2nd headphone.

Most of the flagship phones that sound so nice have a Vulcan-mind-meld presentation where you are at one with the sound, a kind of super intimacy. This seems pretty standard, and is mesmerizing, but after a session with one of these, when I get tired of listening, somehow I find it very...

Why don't the well known audiophile amp companies make headphone amps?

I would think companies like Mcintosh, Pass, Audio Research, Atmasphere, etc. would make high end headphone amps. Most of the great headphone amps seem to be made by one-man operations, with notable exceptions like Luxman (and sort-of by Cary and Leben).  Since there is little competition, I...

Lightspeed attenuator in a headphone amp?

Has anyone ever tried  the Lightspeed attenuator as the volume control inside a headphone amp? (Not the complete passive attenuator box, just the core attenuator LED component itself in place of a regular stepper or potentiometer.) Thanks.

What attenuator is used in the Rudistor RP010B?

What attenuator (it's a potentiometer, continuous) is in the Rudistor RP010B? I have this amp, and it sounds pretty solid in the whole frequency range, even the bass, so I wondered what it is. I can't seem to find it in the specs. Thanks.

TKD continuous potentiometers vs DACT stepped ones?

Any comments on replacing a DACT Stepped attenuator (CT2) with a TKD (2500 series) continuous one? I know there is talk about stepped vs. continuous ones here and elsewhere, but I just wanted to ask specifically about this.   Areas of interest are: Resolution, especially in the bass...
