Best all-rounder open back headphones with plenty of "attack"

The AKG K612 is covered in yes. I'm probably going to jump on it. Does anyone have anymore thoughts or recommendations?

Best all-rounder open back headphones with plenty of "attack"

I've been reading some reviews on them and they are attractive to me. They look ridiculously huge on your head, but that's a price I guess I'm willing to pay. I'll consider them further. Edit - I do have a Fiio E11, which is enough for the K612

Best all-rounder open back headphones with plenty of "attack"

I've noted them, but the very long cable plus lack of being able to detach the cable led me to dismiss them. I forgot that I can just braid the cable like I did to my DT770's cable, so they seem to be an option; Gonna read some reviews on them and see if they're for me.

Best all-rounder open back headphones with plenty of "attack"

I would if I could. There's nothing remotely close to me that has headphones that I am interested in demoing unfortunately.

Best all-rounder open back headphones with plenty of "attack"

Thank you so much for the info.    As far as the amp goes, I bought this thing for $40 a while back for my Beyer's primarily. Thanks for the info on that as well.

Best all-rounder open back headphones with plenty of "attack"

The DT880 too far out of my price range. Believe me, I've considered it strongly.

Best all-rounder open back headphones with plenty of "attack"

It's been a while since I've been here. Glad to see everything is going well. I have the itch to upgrade again, so here I am. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The genres I listen to faithfully - Metal of every subgenre. I am a metalhead. More...

    Help!

The HD 598 isn't hard to get in the US. You'll find it for a cheap price (brand new or lightly used) on eBay most of the time. It's a very popular starting point for audiophiles as of recent.

Should I buy a portable amp?

I think Rozenberg was being slightly satirical. You can get the Fiio E11k and be just fine.I don't know much about Fiio's products above the E10k so I won't speak about them.

    Help!

They're said to be great headphones and can be found for around $100. Not a bad option.

Should I buy a portable amp?

The HD 598 doesn't require an amp due to its impedance but in my research I've found that they benefit from one greatly. The Fiio E11 is a great option for a portable amp and will allow you so venture into higher impedance cans in the future!

    Help!

Everyone's ears are different. I haven't tried them out but I've done a lot of research on them, enough to know that they're too relaxed for me (I prefer the speed of Beyerdynamic). I suggest you do the same.   I was talking about the HD 598 though, not the 650. There's a huge difference in...

    Help!

Have you considered any of Sennheisers offerings? The HD series (HD598 in particular) has a very large sound stage but lacks in the bass department. If you're a bass head looking for an open backed pair of cans then the Fidelio X1 is the best option for you.

    Should I buy the DT990 or HE-400?

I recommended the 80 ohm version because that's what I own and I think it does just fine. I recommended the 770 because it's closed back and won't leak a lot of sound, and generally closed back headphones have a lot more bass than open back headphones.

    Should I buy the DT990 or HE-400?

Do you really need open back headphones? The genres you listen to sound best with some fun and punchy bass with a good attack overall. I recommend the DT770 Pro 80 to you, as long as you're willing to amp them which can be done very well for <$50

    Help!

AKG is known for its massive sound stage. I recommend the Audio Technica ATH AD900x if you want a relatively balanced sound and still a massive sound stage. If you're a fan of little bass and loud treble then AKG is right up your alley.

Where would you buy the Sennheiser HD800

It's highly recommended that you buy audiophile gear used if it'll save you some money in your situation. There's some listings for the HD800 for much lower than that. This listing is quite a deal...

    Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm Thread

I concur. My Fiio E11 just came in today and everything about my DT770 is better. The sound stage opened up, the bass is louder and tightened up even more, everything went from sounding distant to how they're supposed to (metal is in your face, orchestras actually sound like orchestras), the...

Fiio E11 + AT ATH AD900x or Beyer DT880 Pro 250? More info inside.

It's great to hear they're fast headphones as well. I bit the bullet and got a DT880 reserved for me last night and I'll be ordering it next week, but again it's great to hear that about them. It seems like testing headphones with melodeath isn't popular which saddens me. Edit - I got the...

Fiio E11 + AT ATH AD900x or Beyer DT880 Pro 250? More info inside.

Some people claim high impedance headphones (600 ohm for example) are better but I think that's because they're pairing with a high end tube amp, not the headphones themselves.   Right now I'm leaning back over to the AD900x.. God this is a hard decision. The more I think about it the more I...

Fiio E11 + AT ATH AD900x or Beyer DT880 Pro 250? More info inside.

It's great to hear that they're versatile like that!   I'm still doing a lot of reading but I think the DT880 is the best option for me, mainly because they're faster headphones than the AD900x.

Fiio E11 + AT ATH AD900x or Beyer DT880 Pro 250? More info inside.

Thanks for the detailed response! Overall I really prefer melodeath, thrash and classical over the others I mentioned. I think "classical" should be replaced with "orchestrated music" as I listen to more than just artists with the styles of Bach and Mozart if that makes sense. Take the Skyrim...

Fiio E11 + AT ATH AD900x or Beyer DT880 Pro 250? More info inside.

I have my Fiio E11 coming I'm as I type this and I'm very excited to use it in order to get the best sound out of my DT770 Pro 80. I'm looking into getting an open backed pair of headphones and I think I may have narrowed my search down to the AD900x and the DT880. I'm between myself on this for...
