  IMO, with regards to bass, the DT 770 has the better quality while the M50 has the better quantity.. either way, both of them are winners in their price range :D  

  if you are using an on board sound card, you wont realize the full potential of that amp.. i suggest you get an external DAC.. the schiit modi should look nice with the vali.    good luck!

  to answer your question, you do not need an amp to drive your grados.. those are low OHM headphones and your dap can drive them just fine. but if you add an amp, like a Fiio mont blanc, the sound will surely improve.. everything from dynamics to soundstage will be better.    good luck!

try the audio technica ATH M50X.. it is under 200 and the bass is quite good.. should fit your needs pretty well :D

  oh yeahh sorry bout that LOL thanks for pointing it out.. for IEMs at that budget the shure se215  or the hifiman RE 400 is what i would recommend. i own those pair and they are very good for the price.
