    EVGA Nu Audio soundcard

Just got my NuAudio card in and replace the STXII with it. Amp power between the two is roughly the same. I have an HE-560 and a Focal Elear. Drove the Elear very well, as expected, but it's pushing the limit of this card for the HE-560. It's difficult to do a fair comparison of the NuAudio...

    EVGA Nu Audio soundcard

Thanks for the review. I will pick it up and try it out. I am currently running the STX II. On paper the NU audio should be an upgrade...

Oh wells, I'm sad to say, but my Burson Audio Play just crapped out on me. At first it just drops audio at irregular intervals, then it just doesn't work anymore. Seems to get really hot and the performance gets worst after an hour of non-stop audio. It worked like a charm when it was...

Nice. I received my Play unit Vivid edition last weak. Even before proper burn-in, I notice improvements in all level when compared to my asus essence stx ii with MUSES01, but of course that should be expected since it's Class A discrete OPAMP with ESS SABRE DAC. I am a gamer also so I will...

koolpep, thanks for responding.  I might have to try the Lyr2 and the EF100 and see which one I like.   cs098, yeah that's the same response I get from people who have tried the wa7 with the HE560. Thanks.

I agreed, instead of a fancy box, I'd rather get extra earpads, a pair of smc connectors for custom cabling, and extra cables.  Also, I really wish they do away with the screw on smc connectors.   I have yet to find a good amp.  I am eyeing the Hifiman EF-100 and the Lyr 2.  I am aiming for a...

There are so many different amps/dac combo that can go right or wrong depending on music taste, preference, etc.  Another man's trash is another man's treasure.  Some people like warm and lush, others want that forward sounding and hot treble.  There is no ultimate combo that will satisfy...

    ASUS Xonar Essence STX II

Been using this card with Hifiman HE-560 for two weeks now.  I can vouch for it and say it sounds better than my $500 DacMagic Plus (using the headphone out).  The DacMagic Plus headphone out did not provide enough power for the HE-560.  I'm quite suprised it has enough to power the HE-560.  ...

The HE-560 can be somewhat boring because for the most part, it is neutral sounding.  If you are looking at a more "colored" and "more bass" try looking at the HE-500.  I dont know much about the Alpha Primes, but I have owned the HE-4, demoed the HE-500, and currently own the HE-560, and I...

I was using the Emotiva with the HE-4 for awhile.  Worked very well and I still have the Emotiva amp lying around.  I currently do not have it set up for the HE-560.  I have not had any time to look for tge speaker taps I made for the HE-4.

80 hours burn-in on the HE-560.  So far the sound has not change by much, except I feel like it "sounds louder" at the same volume setting.  I was listening to a recording of She's the One by James Brown, and oh man, it was fantastic.  It felt like I was in the room with the performance.  I...

Woot, just got my HE-560 with 10hrs of burn-in so far.  Initial impresssion:  sound signature is similar to a Beyer DT770 600Ohms if I remember correctly, although the highs on the HE-560 is not as "hot" and ear piercing.  The HE-560 is definitely more airy and has wider soundstage than the...

I got an extra set with my HE-4.  It'll sucks if they didn't supply an extra set for a $900 headphones.  I just pulled the trigger on ordering an HE-560 today.  I still have the rma connectors that I modded to terminate to banana plugs.  I sold the HE-4.  I was using my 2 channel integrated...

HE-560+Lyr Amp?   I currently have an Emotiva a-100x, which I was usedto powered a pair of HE-4 (Great headphones, but time to upgrade).  I would like a little bit wider soundstage.  The HE-4 was great for music in some ways, but the smaller soundstage was lacking for PC gaming.   Just...

I just connect these to speaker b of my 2 channels speaker amp Marantz PM8004. Works like a charm. The Emotiva a100x was not good enough for me.

    Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread

Yeah that is probably it.  But that's just me.  Before I bought the Marantz, I auditioned a Rotel amp - which sounded clinical and bright.  I get listening fatigue from that as well that's why I stuck with the Marantz and Denon.

    Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread

Well I found the culprit to the all the excessive hisses and cause of listening fatigue.  It's the emotiva amp.  When using the Marantz amp, it's so smooth that I can listen to music hours without my ear drums tiring out.  30 minutes on the emotiva and my ear drums are blasting.  Even my denon...

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Mobile Headphones Review

Ok, so i have had the P5 for two years now.  The cable really sucks.  Within the first month, the cover to the volume control came off.  And I don't even use it because I don't have any apple products.  Recently the right driver seems to stop delivering any low end note.  All the mid to high...

Thanks guys, I reduced a few dBs in the 8-11kHz to where the drums sounded the most natural and it helped.

    Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread

Well that's what I am wondering.  The thing is that the "sibilance" hiss was not apparent when I was powering the HE-4 with the STX, and it was not in your face with the AKG K712Pro.  Now it is there and tires out my ears faster.

Nice way to spend the new year eh?  Sitting in my man-cave and critically listening to my favorite vinyls through the HE-4 which I just recently constructed a DIY cable into my EMotiva mini a100x.   I don't know if it's "sibilance" or whatever you guys want to call it, but I am definitely...

Sennheiser's Own Balanced Cables for HD 600/650, HD 700, and HD 800 Available This Week

I don't get what is so special about these "balanced" cables?  Isn't the term "balanced" audio is just a method and can be achieved with 1/4" TRS plug or XLR?  e.g in-phase hot signal and out of phase cold signal?     My understanding of a balanced audio signal is this:  a balanced audio...

Update2:  turntable with Marantz receiver.  The sibilant is still present, but is not as harsh as digital source  (relatively).  So far I like everything it does...except the glaring sibilance.  I estimate I have about 100 hours burn in...they suggest 150, but does it really get better over...

    Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread

Woot...   Finally got done soldering in speaker wires to the spare SMA connectors.  They are actually RP SMA connectors.  I was looking all over for the pins, but realized that they are using a non-standardized SMA version upon closer look.  So right now, it is connected as:   Asus STX Front...

Not sure if the HE-500 comes with spare sma connectors, but the HE-4 does.  You can always connect speaker wires to the sma connector and than the other end to the banana plugs.  This will connect your cans directly to the speaker.  It does require a little DIY know-how and soldering skills.
