Alright, so DAP it is. For the (relatively) inexpensive option, what do you guys think of the Fiio X5? Looks nice, is small and has a good UI. Would I be bottlenecking the 1plus2s? Other option is going full retard the first time round and splashing the cash on something like the AK240.

Thanks I'm sure these will get plenty of listening time for my ears to get adjusted to the sound sig. In the not-so-distant future, sound quality-wise, would I be better off buying the über cable or a similarly-priced dap? I'll probably end up with both but it's just a matter of which one I buy...

I've only had a few lower-end IEMs (~$100) so the IE800s were my big jump into high-end IEMs. I like the sound but the tips are endlessly frustrating as I love to walk whilst listening to music and they jump out of my ears at any opportunity. I like warm, bright and bassy music so at the moment...

Thanks for your response miceblue   I've done a bit of testing with the equipment I have, and in my humble opinion I think that the iPhone 4S internal DAC sounds better than the JDS Labs O2 + ODAC (surprisingly). Also the Sennheiser IE800s are much better than the Ultrasone Pro2900s. If only...
