Why do USB cables make such a difference?
Actually, I have to call you out on this one. This is completely wrong, although stems from a rather common misunderstanding, so don't feel too bad. Models and theories are just that - conceptual. It doesn't matter if you're talking about a model of real world phenomena or a theoretical system...- Rockofeller

Why do USB cables make such a difference?
Scientist chiming in here...no, you cannot prove something is true in the strict sense using the scientific method. But you can make decisions and determinations. For all those interested, this UC Berkeley site is a great resource, and even talks about the above-referenced (and out-of-favor)...- Rockofeller

REVIEW: HRT HeadStreamer Asynchronous USB DAC/Amp
Thank you for the review!! Do you think you (or anyone) could do/show me how to do the math to determine voltage swing and other vitals of the headstreamer and audinst hud-mx1 so I can determine which will better drive my AKG K702s. Thank you!- Rockofeller

Nor-Cal Feb 11/2012 Impressions Thread
I had a great time at the meet learning about headphones. That said, I may end up being the only person to come away from a head-fi meet, in the history of head-fi, having decided to *reduce* the value of my headphone collection! Why? I own the AKG K702s and the Sennheiser HD595s - the... -
Reviews and impressions of HRT Headstreamer?
I've had little luck finding reviews of this device. I know it's quite new but still! While I'd love to hear anything about it, I'm particularly interested in how it compares with the audinst hud-mx1 and other budget priced, compact setups for USB audio. I'm considering it for use with a...- Rockofeller

OFFICIAL 2012 Bay Area Meet Thread (California) February 11th, Saturday
I'm down! I'll bring along my hd595s and akg k702. Incidentally does anyone want to buy some nice used hd595s? :) Edit: is anyone bringing a USB amp/dac? I'd love to try an audinst hud-mx1, a hrt headstreamer, and fiio amp/dacs!- Rockofeller

Which of these will most improve the sound through my HD595's (through computer) - DAC or DAC/amp?
Wow. What a phenomenally helpful reply. Especially with respect to fiio's product line. Someone should sticky that! As is stands, I think since I do the vast majority of my non-IEM listening through my computer my best investment is a USB dac/Amp. I see that the hrt headstreamer falls just in...- Rockofeller

Which of these will most improve the sound through my HD595's (through computer) - DAC or DAC/amp?
Thanks! It sounds like I'll get the most value out of a combined unit. Would the E10 work with my iPod (solely as an amp) if I used an LOD connector? I have an iPod nano 4g. I do think I'd prefer to run whatever I buy via USB or battery so I can avoid more cables on my desk. Unless this severely...- Rockofeller

Which of these will most improve the sound through my HD595's (through computer) - DAC or DAC/amp?
Any help on this decision would be greatly appreciated! I have a pair of Sennheiser HD595's. They are from about ~2005 and I think they sound excellent. Since I sometimes listen to them out of my iPod, I don't want to upgrade headphones. That said, I would like to see how much quality sound I...- Rockofeller

One of the buds on my HJE900s can sound "clogged"?

Overcoming relatively poor hearing in one ear
Interesting solutions so far. Thanks everyone. I think it doesn't bother me enough to bother carrying around extra hardware. I highly value the portability of my mobile setup. I'm surprised there isn't a simple software solution - like a permanent EQ. meithkiller: I don't really know what...- Rockofeller

Overcoming relatively poor hearing in one ear
Hey everyone - I was just wondering if there's something I can do to my music collection to make it appropriate to my minor physical impairment. Basically, I have slight hearing loss in my right ear. By slight, I mean that it doesn't really affect me in everyday scenarios, but it does mean that...- Rockofeller

Best <$150 Headphones for me. PLEASE HELP
How about the Sennheiser HD 595s. They are an open headphone (other's will hear what you're hearing) but they perform wonderfully - very "alive" sounding. They are *extremely* durable in my experience (I have treated them far too poorly!). And for a full size headphone they are relatively easy...- Rockofeller

Found a cure for my upgrade-itus
For Jazz, if I had to have one album: A Love Supreme, John Coltrane. It is intensely spiritual and beautiful. Someone may well have listed this already, in which case I will recommend Thelonius Monk's most well-regarded (best?) album: Brilliant Corners.- Rockofeller

Why don't you message a current student that lives in your dorm via facebook or even look through some peoples pictures. What to get for DT770's, a cheap amp or a sound card? X-Fi or Audigy ZS?
get the x-fi,save up for a cmoy if still unsatisfied. If you have no experience listening to high end headphones, you wont know what you are missing - I had upgrade fever as soon as I got my headphones, but now I have more reasonable goals (build an amp, get a cheap dac).- Rockofeller
