I had a similar experience, except with the Audioengine A5. I was very disappointed with them. Guess you can't trust anyone else's ears but your own. I ended up selling them and buying a pair of Focal CMS50's and for my current living situation, I couldn't be happier.

i recently bought a ps3 and have tried the opitcal out to a DAC i have and out to some speakers. it's worked fine, but now the optical cable is stuck in my PS3. I'm afraid if I pull any harder it would break the port or something. Has this happened to anyone else here?

Email Westone! I bought my pair off ebay and the cable became faulty after a week. I ended up sending my IEM's to them and they replaced the cable and I have not had any problems with them since. They were very helpful and quick with their email.
