Late to the party, Objective to with some technical observations
Took some time off for a few years. Previously used an Asus STX and/or Darkvoice 336. I also play guitar and have been building guitar amps and pedals for years, but not til recently decided to build and headphone amp, which lead me to the Objective2. I read alot of reviews, many of which...- scottosan

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
I just got my Marantz 2252B back from surgery. Cosmetically, it looked like it was salvaged from hurricane Katrina. It had loose knobs and the selector swithc had one side of the knurled shaft missing so that a know wouldn't even stay on. All new electrolytics and speaker relay replaced. The...- scottosan

I just bought a Marantz 2252b for 100 bucks off of craigslist. 10 dollars for some contact cleaner and my high end stuff sound thin compared to this beauty- scottosan

sharing worst experience in audio-gd! Be careful everyone..
How does it sound without eq? Although the dac is doing the decoding, you pc is still altering the tone if you are using the eq. Are you using USB, or spidf? My setup disables the eq when using spidf, but usb treats it like a soundcard and eq options are available. It very well could be your...- scottosan

List of entry level TUBE amps + mod for less than $300
I would go with the Darkvoice 336se for several reasons over the Little Dot. The Darkvoice 336se, is mostly point to point wired, which lends itself to easier modding and repair down the road. Also the tubes used a much easier to come by and much cheaper for NOS tubes.- scottosan

As far as these variants, I have tried a bunch and this is the one instance were the Chinese 6n3t (taller version) is better than the NOS stuff out there. All of the NOS sound dull and boomy- scottosan

I'm looking at picking up some high efficiency Klipsch Forte's or Chorus. I've heard that these smaller amps shine through these type of speakers.- scottosan

Grado SR80i vs SR60i ? Does it really matters ?
I have been told by a reputable source that the only difference is better gauge wire in the headphone cable. I have a/b'd them extensively and can not hear a noticeable difference that I could identify which I was listening to.- scottosan

Darkvoice 336 + 336i Tuberolling [ tubes ]
I recommend that before spenging alot on boutique NOS tubes, get some sylvania 6sn7s as they seem to have the best chance is not humming. I have noisy tubes in about every brand that are noisy except the sylvanias. I am 5 for 5 with those and 2 for 3 with tung sols- scottosan

Commentary on Tube Rolling and Misunderstanding of the Science
I always get a little frustrated reading reviews and suggestion on NOS tubes based on limited experience with tubes. It first needs to be understood that there are huge variances in tolerance, even with the same brand. This applies to all tube new, used, and NOS. The reality, is that most...- scottosan

DV 336SE hum-Fitz mod?
If the noise is in fact from the heaters, I will try to DC elevate the heaters. This involves using 2 resistors and a cap from the B+ DC rectified power supply to the center tap of the heaters. I should have mine next week. By installing a cathode bypass cap, you are modifying the gain and...- scottosan

Yes, you will have more flexability with the Asus DAC, as you can use the EQ. The Burr Brown DAC on the Asus is pretty decent.- scottosan
