SK Telecom buys iRiver (=Astell&Kern).... Possible end of A&K?

Yes, it's been really obvious for a while, but it seems the deal has been finalized.   http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/yonhap-news-agency/140625/sk-telecom-acquire-iriver-295-bln-won         I am not even sure what will happen to A&K. Maybe it will be status quo, or SKT may force...

    AVSforum: Is High-Resolution Audio Irrelevant?

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1529833/is-high-resolution-audio-irrelevant     Very balanced article, as expected from none other than Scott Wilkinson.       My take is, before any discussions regarding audibility, we need better mastering and proper 24-bit capable devices including...

The best way to play DSD files ( no exotic DSD DAC required) is...

...just convert them into PCM! Well, it seems not even full 24/192 PCM is required to contain all of the information from DSD files.   http://www.belcantodesign.com/pdfs/Optimal_DSD_Playback.pdf   Or you can buy Schiit Loki, but I think spending money on Jriver is far better solution than...

Audioholics: Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction (contains interesting bits about DBT)

http://www.audioholics.com/loudspeaker-design/loudspeaker-myths-and-truths   This really painfully reminds me Dr. Sean Olive's headphones freq response target curve testing. Sure, Harman curve got the highest score.... and the test subjects were Harman employees. This was not really a...

To anyone actually knowledgeable with this: Is there any equalizer for DSD format that does not use PCM conversion while operating?

To anyone actually knowledgeable with this: Is there any equalizer for DSD format that does not use PCM conversion while operating?   More I know about DSD, less supportable I become toward this format.   It seems there isn't many (if any) audio equipments that can take care of DSD in native...

Article : Thoughts on Headphones and the Future of the High-End ('Why headphones are not going to save Hi-Fi')

This is one of few excellent articles I found on internet, so I'd like to see some discussions. This subforum is the most relevant so I post here.   http://parttimeaudiophile.com/2013/12/29/head-fi-versus-hi-fi-beats-by-dre-and-the-future-of-the-high-end/       My take is that people got a...

Let's talk about this ultimare iOS equalizer/player called Accudio...

There is an another post on Portable Source Gear subforum (http://www.head-fi.org/t/644688/the-accudio-app-by-golden-ears-a-headphone-revolution), but I feel we need to talk about this for more engineering/scientific sides here.   RIght now I can't test this app extensively, since I...

So, why do we have SACDs anyway?

So after reading some information about DSD and PCM and practices in recording industry, I think that DSD and SACD may be huge problem someday.     As far as I understand, there aren't many native DSD tools to work on. So what they do is they record and edit everything as PCM format, and...

    About incoming PS500 concerns.

First of all, sorry for making yet another near-useless thread here, Todd.       In recent PS500 discussion, A guy working at one of audio shops reported that Grado messed up his first batch of PS500 (lettering/metal finish part) Not sure if you can see them from the box, but I think we...

Why do people like bass so much?

"Your headphones suck! (pointing K701) this thing does not have any bass!"   *gives him D5000*   "OK... it is much better, but still need more bass"       I know, there are such HUGE (yes, capital words for emphasis) market for bassheads, and -not just headphones- many consumer...

Removing driver-protecting fabrics on HD800 seems make sound better...

Yes, similar to what some people have done on their HD6x0 : taking off driver-protecting 'foam' 'fabric' for clearer sound. I was washing the headband and pads of HD800, and I thought about this. It seems there is some slight improvement on detail. The thing is fabric on HD800 is, IMO...

    Is Koss really going down?

Koss likely to face more lawsuits - The Business Journal of Milwaukee: If you have visited a blog of Tyll of Headroom, you are probably aware a fraud issue going on Koss. But it seems the problem is even bigger and bigger as time goes on. Koss is really small company, and based on investor...

WHY we still do not have a decent lossless store?

I mean a store with at least more than four major labels. There is none, other than one semi-legal (or not) russian site... I mean none. Am I missing something?

    Beyerdynamic DTX900 : First Impression.

I order them due to curiosity, since they are really not known headphones. I also got Koss Pro4AAAT, which I am not so impressed (but I think they are interesting headphones as well.) Now these DTX900..... They sound amazing. Cannot believe their MSRP is mere $110.00...

Why portable amps are called as oxymoron?

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/you...inions-421187/ This thread got my eyes, and found that quite some people pointed out portable amps are useless. Thing is I really can't think why, and can't find where this is started. Can someone educate me about this (or start discussion?)

SR-100 with HP1000 drivers: questions. + First & Second impressions.

Screw HD800! And I put my money for HP1000 journey. Now, the ones I am getting have unlettered MS2 cups. So here are questions... I searched the forum but I want some clear answers. 1.) How's SR100 with original plastic cups compared with HP-1/2/3? How about with aluminum cups like MS2...

I think I found the secret of Grado comfort.

The problem is headband shape, not the pads. Again like SR225 and MS-1, after received MS2i, I felt good pain from wearing these. So I adjust headband to put headphile C-pads. By pure accident, before I put C-pads, I decided to wear MS2i with the original pads (bowl) The pain was...

Information about Sennheiser HD800 connector. [Updated 3/5/09]

So, I am writing here instead of that big thread on headphones forum, since probably this may buried and no one would noticed. Move or merge this if you feel this thread is not suitable to be here. So, after searching, I successfully contacted a company which make HD800 cables for Sennheiser...

Any chance of carrying high-end philips headphones?

Seriously, for example, SHP9000s, cost about 100$ (or less), rival HD595, Goldering DR150 and other 200$-ish ones in sound quality and comfort. SHP8900, 8500 are very good for the price as well. Philips sells them all over the world except in USA.
