Being cynical, this pointless and endless speculation initiated by the Abyss announcement plays right into the marketing department‘s intentions.

Decisions, decisions. Whether to back the 5’s as my conventional cans or concentrate on the X9000 e stats.

I also fancy “the one” but have a feeling it may be the Stax X9000.

I’m surprised how good these sound - a warmish tonality with plenty of ”body” and smooth treble. Not a detail freak but very musical with that “pipe and slippers” feel that makes a change from the HD800S and Stax sound. I would say they’re along the Audeze sound sig. with more hf. Given the UK...

Is the general consensus that the lcd5 needs eq? I just want a totl set of cans with sufficient balance that I don’t need to faff around with the frequency response. Is this too much to ask?

Push pull with the Sennheiser as they can accentuate the hiss with single triode. I’ve a pair of Stellias on the jack output where I do prefer triode. But this is just me…..

Yes I bought a pair and use them balanced. Most excellent in general and the amp slightly warms what could be a more sterile sound with some amps.

So much depends on partnering equipment including cables and supports. I noticed a definite improvement in sound with 009s when changing the support that my mains block sits on…

It’s amazing how much speculation can be made of so few impressions.

Was thinking of the 8K myself to replace my closed back Stellias but will wait and see how the LCD 5 shapes up. I already have 009S and HD800S so do not need hyper detail.

The issue for me in the forum is separating the wheat from the chaff. Finding decent contributors who know what they’re talking about rather than those just justifying their own purchases from a limited knowledge base and just blowing air.

Stax amps are ok - but lack guts and drive. Possibly best for classical. If you’re considering the totl cans then you really need better than a Stax amp.
