    Alclair 'Reference' In-Ear Monitor Review

This is my very first review, and I am only doing so because I am extremely impressed with this small company, Alclair, and believe that more people should be aware of the fantastic work they’re doing. The custom in-ear monitors are the Reference model, starting at $399. They are my first...

Custom IEM's...So many to choose from, where to start?

I'm looking into getting some custom IEM's, but I don't know where to start. The main companies I know of are Heir Audio, Noble Audio, Ultimate Ears, 1964 Ears, and JH Audio. How do I know which company to go with? What makes them different from each other? Someone please point me in the right...

    Looking for IEM's under $300

I don't know much about IEM's, but I'm looking for a pair that I can buy and have on or before Wednesday, March 18th. I can pick-up from Best Buy, Guitar Center, or ship with Amazon Prime / Ebay. I have owned Shure SE215's in the past but I found them rather uncomfortable. I am looking at the...

Moving the impressions for the meet over to this thread, which I believe is located in a more appropriate place. Thanks for coming everyone, it was fun.

    Minneapolis February Meet

This meet will take place on Saturday, February 21st in the Wayzata Library meeting room. There will be 6 tables, plenty of chairs, and outlets (although it may be a good idea to bring extension cables or power banks). We have the space reserved between 12 and 4 PM. Please post if you are able...

Using a speaker amp - headphone output or speaker taps?

What is the general consensus on this? My amp is a Cambridge Audio Topaz AM10. Am I better off using the headphone output on the front, or buying speaker taps for the back?

    HD600 and HD650 discontinued?

A few friends of mine that work at various audio dealers are telling me that the HD600 and HD650 are no longer in stock and cannot be ordered from the manufacturer. Also, Sennheiser does not have any available for order from their website. Are these headphones finally being discontinued?

How to tell the difference between AKG K240's?

How do you differentiate the models? Is it possible to know specifically which model this one is?

    Hifiman HE400i vs Fostex TH600

Could anyone who has owned/heard both give me a cohesive comparison between the two? I currently own the 400i but want to possibly switch to the TH600.

Sub-$200 amp for Beyer DT880 Premium 600 ohms?

Hey, just bought a pair of 600 ohm 880's. What do I need to drive these things? Preferably under $200.

    Beyerdynamic DT880 Modding

I want to buy a pair of DT880 Premium's, but there are a few things that I don't like about them. I would prefer two detachable cables, rather than one attached. Also, since the drivers are not angled, I would like to replace the pads with angled ones. I have never modified a pair of headphones...

New headphones not working properly with cable extension?

I just bought a pair of AKG K545's yesterday. The included cables are only 3 feet, so I picked up a 6.5 foot extension to use with my computer. When the 545's are used with the extension, the vocals disappear, and the rest of the sound is crackly and sounds like it's underwater. The cable works...

    Sub $400 portable headphones [Denon/AKG]

I'm looking for a pair of portable headphones. Here is what I need from them: ability to be powered by an iPhone, very little to no noise leakage, comfort. The only portable headphones I've had have been the Sennheiser Momentum's, but the pads were too small resulting in an uncomfortable and...

Trying to use a receiver to power headphones, met with audible hum and white noise

Hi, I just dug up an old Pioneer VSX-451 to try and power some Sennheiser HD700's. The receiver is connected to my computer. When my headphones are plugged in, I get a loud hum and white noise. Hopefully this is a simple fix... anyone have an idea as to what's wrong?   Also, would using this...

    Having trouble loving headphones...why?

I'm kind of upset that I can't fall in love with a pair of headphones. I've owned HD598s, Momentums, HD600s, DT990s, SR80s, and now have HD700s. Sure, they sound great. The 700s beat everything I've owned so far. However, when I unplug them and listen to my Audioengine A2 speakers...

Anywhere to listen to Hifiman headphones near Minneapolis?

I really want to get a pair of Hifiman planars, but I need to hear and feel them first. Is there anywhere within an hour of Minneapolis that would have these? I'm doubtful, but just maybe!

    Replacing HD700s with HE-500s?

I received my HD700s 2 weeks ago after weeks of reading reviews of the 700s and the HE-500s. I'm currently using the 700s unamped, because it's all my current budget allows for. I'm really enjoying them, but having slight buyers remorse. I've been doing some more research on the HE-500s, and it...

I'll be here until Wednesday and I'd like to audition some cans! I don't know a thing about the area. Thanks!

Amp to tame the Sennheiser HD700 treble? Under $150?

Are there any amps that would take the treble of the HD700s? Preferably under $150?

Hifiman HE-500 vs Sennheiser HD700 for the same price

I could get the HE-500s for the same price as I could get the HD700s. This sits at around $500. Which is the better buy? Which is the better buy after including costs of an amp/dac? My favorite headphone so far has been the Sennheiser HD600. I listen to mostly acoustic, classical, jazz, and...

Any reason to not get Sennheiser HD700s?

I have been strongly considering buying the HD700s. I can get a pair of open box ones for $530. I can't quite afford the 800s, and definitely can't afford to adequately power them. I know that the 700s don't receive glowing reviews, but I have heard some good things about them. My main concerns...

    $1000 to spend - HD700s + amp/dac or HD800s?

Hey. I'd like to invest in a fairly nice setup. I have about $1000 to spend, and I'm in between two different routes currently. My first choice is getting open box HD700s for $530, then getting an amp and dac. My second choice is buying a pair of used HD800s for hopefully under $1000, and then...
