    HE-500 Broken Headband & Fix

I'm wondering how common is it for the HE-500 headband to break? I ask because I used one hand to remove my HE-500s a couple of weeks ago and the round plastic clamp that holds the earcup slider broke in half. It's not like I pulled really hard or did anything strange when removing the...

How Tubes and Tube Amps Work Webpage

If you're not an electrical engineer and are curious about how tube amplifiers work I have a webpage dedicated to explaining them in the most non-technical method possible. The page uses guitar amplifiers but the theory is pretty much the same. If you are interested please take a look and I...

How Tube (Valve) Amplifiers Work Webpage

I know many of you are like me and want to better understand how tube amplifiers work. I have created an easy to understand web page that details how every component in a tube amplifier works including how the rectifier, preamp and power tubes work. There's no math and I use a lot of graphics to...

Uber Bargain $33 TA2024 Balanced Amp

I mentioned this little balanced speaker amp in the "speaker amp for headphones" thread but this amp is such a great high output headphone amp I thought it deserved its own thread.   I picked up an $18 Stellar Labs desktop amp today from MCM Electronics. It's a Tripath TA2024 Class T based...

Tripath TA2024 Amp Board as Balanced Headphone Amp in TEAC UD-H01 DAC

I gambled with $18 and ordered a generic Tripath TA2024 "balanced" push-pull amplifier board to see how it sounded as a balanced headphone amp for my HE-500 and modified T50RP headphones. I was pretty surprised by how good it sounded so I installed it in my TEAC UD-H01 DAC. The Tripath amp board...

Safe to Drive Headphones with Tube Speaker Amp?

Is it safe to drive my 38 ohm HE-500 headphones with my 40 watt per channel all tube amp? The amp has 4 and 8 ohm speaker taps so I'd use the 8 ohm tap and of course I wouldn't need to turn the volume up much but I don't want to hurt my amp. Thanks in advance.   Rob

HE-500 Balanced Cable from Canare Star Quad Cable

I made what turned out to be a pretty nice hybrid balanced cable for my HiFiMan HE-500 headphones using very high quality Canare L-4E6S Star Quad cable. The details of the build are here: http://robrobinette.com/HeadphoneMods.htm#HE-500 I say "hybrid" because the cable's star quad wrap and...

    AKG K240, K702, Q701 and K712 Balanced Mod

I just finished converting my lovely AKG K240 Studio headphones from standard 3-wire single end to 4-wire balanced mode. It's pretty easy to replace the headphone jack's Male 3-pin Mini XLR jack with a Male 4-pin Mini XLR jack. For you K701 owners your stock headphone cable is a 4-wire so all...

Love AKG K240 Studio, Will I Love K702 More?

I love the clean, accurate sound of my AKG K240 Studio headphones (unmodified) when combined with an Aune T1 DAC/Amp. Is the K702 similar but more accurate? Is the K702 Anni worth the extra $ ? Thanks for the help.   Rob
