First FLAC-playing flash-player announced
I think it's the first, anyway.. the iAudio U3 http://iaudiophile.net/comment.php?comment.news.115 of course, you won't fit a whole lot of FLAC audio onto a player with only 512mb or 1gb of memory... but there will be a 2-gig version as well. i'd guess a 4gb version isn't too far away, either.- austonia

don't like what's (not) on the web? do something about it
quick rant/comment: there are still gaps on the web. you can fill them. 3 years ago, i had the same thought. i was an avid head-fi'er, rapidly filling this place with all sorts of crap bleeding out of my half-baked head. mostly, strong opinions about mp3 players and the like. i happen to...- austonia

iPod-size player with 20gb, color LCD, video playback, 1mp+ camera & PDA functions
sorry, not yet. but it looks like this is where it's headed. 5 years? color screen, video playback, etc all seem like natural progressions and then the camera and PDA stuff should end up in there as well would you guys rather have a pure music player, separate from other PDA-type...- austonia

Sick of lugging around multiple A/C adapters? Try this
Basically i just don't have room to carry all my players in a briefcase AND the hugish, redundant AC adapters. Simple solution: tested, it works fine for charging. I wouldn't try to use a player at the same time it's sucking off the USB bus (100ma), but the PS/2 port provides enough juice...- austonia

iPod: Headphones directly into the Line-out port (no amp)
I've heard of people doing this before but just tried it myself and pretty happy with the resuts using BeyerDynamic DT770's (250ohm). volume is just about perfect (loud, not painful) directly from the line-out port on the dock. It also sounds slightly cleaner than the headphone port at...- austonia

Comments on iPod v.4
i never ended up with a Mini so this is my first experience with the click-wheel. I have to say that it's the most efficient control I've used to date. all functions can be accessed with one finger (thumb) and it never has to leave the wheel. wheel feels like it will last. Much better than the...- austonia

DAP Question: Is on-the-fly playlisting a must-have feature?
I'm trying to group DAPs into useful catagories for a buying guide but for "Full-featured players" I'm trying to decide if on-the-fly playlisting should be a requirement. For me, I think so, but it's also relevant to what other people think. If most people agree that yes, it is a must-have...- austonia
