Good ears - but only for certain music?

Awesome! That's the info I wanted to hear. Also wanted to hear people's own experiences with quirks in genre and audio quality. THanks!

Good ears - but only for certain music?

Okay, so maybe the methodology wasn't as good as I thought. Sorry about that. But the point of this post is to discuss whether or not people are more sensitive to audio quality based on genre, or not - the test thing was just an intro device to the larger question at hand. I appreciate your...

Good ears - but only for certain music?

It's actually not the Tidal test itself, but a reworking of it, comparing 320kbps with "lossless". The sound levels and EQ are all the same, and it's an ABX. I think it's pretty legit, but maybe not. As a scientist, I trust it at this point - the methodology seems good.

Good ears - but only for certain music?

Hi all!   Been a while since I posted (new kid, new job, etc.), but missed hanging around with everyone here.   I was using the ABX "improved" Tidal test at http://abx.digitalfeed.net/ and got a decent score (p = 0.04 for the medium-length test), but then redid the test a couple of times and...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Sounds cool. Just wanted people to know that yet another person found the HM5 pads to be decent!

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Hi, all! I had the X1's, but couldn't make them work with my huge noggin. I loved the sound, though. Just picked up the cheap X2's from Amazon on that lightning deal, and MAN - I love them. All the problems have been fixed. Better bass, IMO, more comfy for the bigger-headed person, etc. I did...

**MrSpeakers Mad Dog: Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Just got mine in and got to listen to them last night; so happy to have them back. So rich sounding. I've found that it just takes so long to find the best headphones for your own personal tastes, since there are so many different sound signatures out there. This is the headphone for people who...

I was totally in search of glasses-friendly headphones; there's precious few. Mad Dogs were among the best, now I realize. You should check out the Beyer Custom One Pro as well; it's a very versatile can and VERY comfortable for me with glasses on.

Yeah, sorry you didn't like the Mad Dogs. Maybe you will have better results; however, I'm really picky and just haven't found another headphone that is as solid. My X1's creaked, my K550's don't have replaceable pads, my Q701's creaked, etc...   All of these little nagging details get me...

From Bose to K550 to Momentums to DT1350s to Mad Dogs (and back again) (and back AGAIN) - my poem

Well, after all this time and shifting around of equipment and whatnot, I've come back to the Mad Dog. I added an epilogue. It really amounts to this: I don't want a headphone that's too shrill, and I demand something that is made well. These are the best-made headphones I've ever seen, period...

Well, just put in an order for the Mad Dogs ONCE AGAIN. I stupidly traded them for X1s, didn't like the fit, traded around for others, was never happy. Always missed the Mad Dogs. Glad to get them back: nothing is made quite as well, and Dan is the man.

Well, comparing them to Grados is a strange one. They're fast and sharp in attack, which is similar, but more low end and more accurate. As for their performance with an E12, I couldn't say, but they are easily drivable by anything.

Schiit Modi/Magni hissing and humming and then goes away!

First off, I love this setup - it sounds accurate and great, and powers anything. No, it's not "high-end", but for those of us on a teacher's budget, it's perfect.   I just traded in my MacBook Air for a new iMac, and now I'm hearing a humming and buzzing out of my right ear. This didn't...

Review by 'dablues' on item 'Philips Fidelio X1'

What can I say about this headphone that hasn't been said? I just know that all the stupid things about it - the cable with stupid resistance, the non-replaceable pads, the strange headband, the fact that they probably aren't making it any more - all of those things just fade away when you put...

Philps Fidelio X1 vs sennheiser hd 598

Good to hear! I'm a huge fan of good music - don't really care what kind it is, but I've gotta say that these X1s are the most versatile headphones I've ever, ever used.

Philps Fidelio X1 vs sennheiser hd 598

I respectfully disagree that the X1s are bad for rock. I've found them to be very versatile - an exciting headphone for pretty much everything, and I own both them and the HD598. I find the HD598 great for opera and jazz.

Denon AH-D600 Vs. Philips Fidelio X1 Vs. MrSpeakers Mad Dog

Hi there!   I had the Mad Dogs - a wonderful headphone, VERY tight and smooth bass - a great, slightly warm all rounder. However, I just didn't like the feel of them on my head (which is a strange opinion, as most people love them), and recently got some X1s. I would never go back - the X1s...

From Bose to K550 to Momentums to DT1350s to Mad Dogs (and back again) (and back AGAIN) - my poem

Just added an epilogue to the poem (the first post). To make a long story short: the Mad Dogs just weren't doing it for me for my extremely big head. Amazing headphones, very well done, but just didn't press my buttons. I got a Sennheiser HD598 for the classical and softer stuff, and yes, went...

Yeah, I get that there are plenty of good open-sounding closed headphones - I'm going to have to check out the TH900s - but I was just thinking out loud about modifying the Mad Dogs to have literal open backs (and then doing all the requisite tuning). Just being dumb!

Yeah, they do look great, but I don't think they're ACTUALLY open, right? I meant something like poking literal holes in them. Clearly, I'm no engineer - just a science teacher.

I wonder if there would ever be a mod to make the Fostex more open? Or would that be too extensive?

Yeah, just got the X1s in yesterday and love them. I ended up selling the Mad Dogs, but I know I'll miss them. They're a very, very good can.
