AirPods Max
While I agree it is easy to accidentally press the buttons, considering where they're placed and how one usually grabs the headphone's earcups, I find it not really worth mentioning because it's a matter of habit: you just get used to reaching for the cups in a way that avoids their upper side.- striker

The footnote seems to have been changed. When I had read it, closer to launch, it mentioned "to initialize the adaptive system". Here's the press release as it was reported on December 8th by Bloomberg...- striker

It's irrelevant what test it is applied to... If Apple makes a measurement (any measurement) "After playing pink noise to initialize the adaptive system", I'd say any amateur test should be started in the same way. They obviously know what they're doing much better than you, me or any amateur...- striker

Footnote 1 here. But they aren't typical headphones. Maybe sending a simple sine sweep doesn't activate the adaptive system of the APM. Maybe the sweep that reaches the listener's ears from a "cold start" is different from the sweep that reaches those ears a fraction of a second after the...- striker

Apple's website states, regarding some measurements, that they were done "After playing pink noise to initialize the adaptive system". Were crinacle's and other measurements posted here done like this? Probably not.- striker

Westone 4 Impressions and Reviews Thread
Got a pack of Westone Star silicone tips last week but unfortunately I don't like them at all, too rigid and unconfortable, especially the longer ones. The shorter ones unfortunately are too small and fall off. After not getting along with the Earportz, I'll stick to the faithful Sony...- striker

Why pick on cables ?
Sorry, but it does eliminate. There's no placebo because you don't know what you're listening to. There are no fatigue differences, because you're listening to samples having the same level of ear fatigue. There are no mood related differences, because you're listening to samples in the...- striker

Why pick on cables ?
I'm sorry, but I'm failing to understand why should your proposed study should be needed to assess small effects. What does that study try to accomplish? -To eliminate perception differences resulting from placebo? Any double blind test (DBT) does that. -To eliminate perception differences...- striker

UE TF10, vs Sure 425, vs westone 3 - 4
TF10 certainly do not have pronounced mids, quite the contrary, perhaps a bit less than neutral, but neutral is still a word that would describe them fine. I'd say they pretty much match what you're looking for: "a vcurve with neutral mids". The same can be said of the Westone 3, only with...- striker

Westone UM3X or Westone 4 or Shure SE535 ??
Quote: It's irrelevant if one is bigger or smaller than the other (what's bigger? length, mass?...), the question was about how they fitted on a headphone jack inside an iphone 4 case. In that perspective, the UM3X would be harder to fit due to its design (shorter but wider).- striker

iPod 5G or Classic?
Don't need that much space, don't like nor feel the need for rockbox. The Video design is great (more akin to the first iPods which I love), but it's fatter than the classic.- striker

iPod 5G or Classic?
Quote: I would prefer the 5G at certain times and with certain tracks, but the bass roll-off was too much to me. And with more space, better screen, better size and better software on the Classic, that was my choice. Right now I'm using it with a shortened Fiio E1: gives it a...- striker

iPod 5G or Classic?
Either I'm deaf, or the 6th and 7th gen iPod Classics are 99.9% the same. Yes, maybe some minor difference in fullness of sound, but only noticeable when A/Bing, nothing to bother with, especially considering the price difference. The 5G is indeed different, but, again, not in a mind...- striker

W2 vs W4 | Comparison & Review
Quote: Well, within the same range, of the same brand, more expensive does usually mean better sound (technically). Sound preferences can, of course, make someone prefer the technically inferior and cheaper IEM, which is perfectly normal and even expectable.- striker

W2 vs W4 | Comparison & Review
In terms of personal satisfaction, yes, undoubtedly. But in the case of a "review", I disagree. Personal preferences should be put aside, or, at least, in the background. But then the "shock-value" of this thread would be somewhat lost...- striker

W2 vs W4 | Comparison & Review
So, third thread by Katun criticizing the Westone 4, and with the previous one only 1 week old... that's some serious attention-seeking behaviour :) I'd say technical merit at this level is about very small differences, and what sets one clearly apart from the other are merely personal...- striker

Why do you put "worth it" in quotes, implying music_4321 said so, when he didn't?... But even if he had. What would be so "unfair" about it? The importance of different tastes and expectations is often remembered, why does it not apply to music_4321 statements?- striker
