I found it very easy indeed. By just changing the preferred output in Audirvana and a quick turn on the input knob on the MHA I can, to my ears, change the sound signature. I had both USB and optical cables connected for the whole test.

My thoughts exactly.   When (IF) I ever have the time to do a thorough review of the MHA100 I will definitely give HDX a few hours. But right now I feel exactly like you: the negative effects of HDX in direct A-B testing are overwhelming while the benefits seem minor in comparison.

Fair enough. Well, I can only tell you what I have read and heard for myself so far. And that is that I do NOT think I will feel the need to buy an additional DAC in the near future. But then again... we all have upgraditis and it might happen in the long run.   What I can say right now is...
