BTW, you can get some great deals on the 7550/EX800 in the classifieds. I got mine almost new for $169 and couldn't be happier. I've seen even cheaper.

Acupass is actually a product of Sonion that TDK utilized. There are other iems that utilized the same drivers but without the impedance correction in the cord. I've never seen the impedance circuitry on a cord except for TDK. The Sonion website explains the Acupass pretty well...I remember...

I agree that the EPH100 has good quality bass but disagree that it is basshead level. My Sony EX800/MDR7550s are on a different level completely. I have to rest my ears from a basshead workout with the Sonys. The Yamahas were pretty flat/neutral to me. Different kind of sound but not basshead.

According to my observations, taping the vents on the MDR7550's/EX800's raises the bass level but doesn't lower the mids.  The mids can take a bigger back seat to the bass, but they're still there in full effect.  I don't know about the 2.5's, so I won't comment on those.  IMO, my EX800's are...

I haven't had any luck with SureSeal tips. I'm currently using medium JVC Spiral Dots with my EX800's and enjoying them. Best compromise I've found so far.

I have an ear health/basshead question: I've overstimulated my ears with bass. Is there a good way to recover from ear soreness and tinnitus? Complete silence? Over the ear headphones? Time period? Just curious as I've seen others mention struggling with this problem.

I don't own the XB90s, but I've read in this thread numerous times that amping and EQing will make the bass come out. Out of the plastic, my EX800s have pretty good bass. Add an amp, clean source, some tape and EQ, your eardrums will bleed. If you can, try to push the XB90s. It sounds like...

Yes, amping helps considerably IMO. The 7550 with amping and vents covered came highly recommended to me from this thread and I completely agree.

I've found the 7550 mids to be excellent and can be pretty lush and forward, depending on your setup. The treble is rolled off to me. But, this is the basshead thread, so cranking up the bass puts the bass up front, which is outstanding with the 7550. I agree with hawaiibadboy on the Allman...

Random question and maybe I'm the only one to experience this, but everything installed and seems to work fine but the navigation wheel or "Quick Menu" is not an option.  Any thoughts?  Anyone else have this problem?  It looks great and seems to function perfectly otherwise.

I'd like to mention that the EX800/MDR7550 are excellent for watching movies.  I love how sounds pan from left to right, you have a great, immersive soundstage, and the bass hits deep so you get that movie theater feeling.  Loving these more and more.
