Thanks for the kind comments, trying to finish the first stainless ones in the next few days. It's kind of hard right now though since my wife and I just had a new baby! Might be delayed another week, will keep updating though...

Images are of one side with an aluminum prototype and the other with stock plastic for comparison on my 325is cans. Stainless will be much more durable (the aluminum ones are somewhat fragile), and I will post pics once complete. My design mounts to the adjustment rod with a set screw on the...

I am tinkering with making gimbals in stainless steel. Are you interested?

The only negative I can give on the 325is cans is the plastic gimbals. Both of mine are stripped out where the S.S. adjustment rods thread in. Thankfully, I have metalworking as a hobby, so I made new ones in aluminum. Now working on making some in stainless steel.

Or you can spend $30 and build it yourself! Some assembly required... (And fab too)

I agree they are heavy... impact and audio quality. I have no comfort issues, I think they are actually light - weight wise. They are my perfect headphone, treble is perfect to my ears. I would like to try the RS series and Hp1000 series though.

My 325's made me forget there were other high end headphone companies. They are better than great for any music I throw at them. Work best with my A47 amp, IMO.

Nice to have the aluminum cups though. Just something about them that''s hard to describe. Hard to go wrong with most Grado's though.

ChristianT - How about a pair of SR325is cans? Might not be exactly what you are looking for, but much cheaper (at least in the US).

Just made a replacement gimbal for one side in aluminum. The factory plastic one on the left side stripped out where the adjustment rod threads in. Plan to remake the other side too.

Just hit the first 100 hours with my new Grado 325's. I must say they are definitely better. The NIB tinny sound has all but faded from my memory, as it does not exist anymore at all to my ears. I absolutely love these cans and am so glad I took the chance with my $300.

They look very cool, nice job. Also good creativity!

I agree, weight isn't bad, just enough to let you know the cans are there. The 325's do have a quality feel.

$300 new, but on eBay might be able to snag a set for $200 in good used condition. Even at full retail, they are an incredible deal!

Yep, and maybe I can convert some of my non-audiophile friends too.

I have tried something like that, but most people don't even understand why one wants hi-Fi headphones in the first place.

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones Part II

I always get looks of curiosity when wearing my high end cans at work. I even had one coworker ask if my amp was some kind of wooden boom box (it's actually a homemade CMOY). It's sometimes hard to explain this hobby to others who aren't "in the know".

Has anyone here tried the WA3 with Grado Sr325is cans? If so how did it sound?

    Breaking in headphones

I can say that I definitely have noticed an improvement in my Grado 325 cans. Where the highs seemed tinny at first (new out of the box), they settled down after about 15 hours. After 50 hours they seemed to be completely smoothed out. It only makes sense that the flexible parts of the drivers...

Thanks for the feedback on the RS series, and the T1 as well. I wish I could afford the T1 cans, maybe if I wish hard enough, Santa will deliver. Would probably want to have a dedicated amp too, since all my current cans are low impedance (~32 to 40 ohm).

Sounds like Acute Graditis, no cure for it discovered yet. You can treat the symptoms temporarily though by listening to a set of Grado cans. I "suffer" from this "affliction" myself.

I also have and love a set of 325's! How would you describe the harshness in the rs2 vs the rs1? Also, what kind of test music was used?

A little help whittling down my closed headphone list

I have the the Shure SRH440's and I absolutely love them as far as closed backs. For mine for $100. They are my primary headphones for work. The isolation is good, bass is good (not over powering though), and overall personal enjoyment is great. The only other high end headphones I have to...
