After refurbishing my original, and having it be so good, I want to start collecting them. Like a HE-500 rescue farm where they can have nice comfortable headbands, and be fed nothing but healthy balanced power, so they can age gracefully.

Well for this thread, we can keep it to the HE500. Low impedance, but they get better with power. I remember trying them with the Fiio K5 and the HE500 sounded horrendous, even if the volume was loud enough. My LCD-XC, by contrast, is fine out of the Micro iDSD even on eco mode.

@iFi audio This may be slightly off-topic, but for power-hungry planars, would you recommend going with a full-size desktop amplifier running off an outlet, rather than the iDSD micro BL that is running off a battery/USB?

Personally I prefer the thinner pads. The HD800 are so light that I didn’t see any advantage for the thick pillow pads. Also the leather-ish pads are preferable to me, as the velour pads feel weird to me after too much time.
