Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Ok I’ll just take my electrical engineering degrees and go elsewhere. This is why I kept away from this site for a good long while. I’m leaving. Peace

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I think the fact that user kept it in quotes was an indicator that it wasn't a fact but, like they said, in many cases that was the held opinion. Be that this or other forums, published reviews, etc... For the record, I used Yggy SE into a tube amp for years and it sounded absolutely fantastic.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'd have to disagree. Some designs are inherently balanced and they benefit from staying that way. Some designs (take a good phono preamp - many of which are inherently unbalanced) are unbalanced and behave great in that manner. The Yggy A2is an inherently hardware balanced design and you'll...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I think the point was more that it was explicitly designed to work best with balanced. Both are great. Being an inherently hardware balanced output, it’s performance is better out of the xlr versus going through the fet summer stage for SE output. I have used both and they’re both great...

Yaaasss. I'd like to see a big brother to the Bifrost 2. Same concept. "Cheap balanced" so SE and Balanced are closer and using 2 versus 4 of the Yggy's chips. Gungnir case (if possible) and available in multiple colors. I love the Bifrost 2 so much that something like it but moar better...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Yeah it’s frustrating. Mine has been stuck in Arkansas for three days now. The fedex system is incredibly complex and interconnected. With such disruptions due to weather, it will cause issues even outside affected areas. The trucks gotta get there from somewhere with stuff from other places...

Waiting for fedex to get my Bifrost 2 to Knox Vegas still myself. Wooosahh

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Interesting. I'll take a look. I'm curious how his newly remastered versions of the back catalog fare. I mean, it's industrial metal (or whatever you'd like to call it) so it's never going to be an orchestra but I did find the remastered files (and the vinyl) to sound great. Now I need to...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

One thing I will add is that most music put out today is mixed and mastered for how most people listen, on cheap gear that benefits from lots of compression. It's really unfortunate. I find joy in breaking the brains of friends when they hear music done and played back better. One cool thing...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The anniversary remaster of Michael Jackson’s BAD was so terrible that Quincy Jones took the record label to court. edit: correction. Not the record label. The Michael Jackson estate.

Schiit Jotunheim 2 - Impressions Thread

Not exactly sure what happened. Just came home one day and it wouldn’t power on. Never had any problem with their gear before. Had 30 different products over the years from them and none ever went bad. They sent me an rma a day later and it got fixed within a week and is on its way back now.

I have a bifrost 2 and a Jot 2. When the bifrost gets back from repair, I will post impressions on here. It’s an incredible piece of kit and how I ultimately plan to run the amp.

To me, it matters more on your preference for desktop space. I have a buddy who is now planning to get a JOT2. I sold him my OG Asgard 1 and Bifrost few years back. He’s ready to upgrade but also have a simpler cleaner desktop. He’s gonna get the amp with probably the multibit dac card. He...

I have not tried the card but I have the amp with a much better external dac and can testify that it scales incredibly well.

Update on my impressions. I had some reservations on the sound with the Senn Hd6XX. Something wasn’t right. It was just edgy, bright and stiff. Fast forward a few days and I realized these are brand new out of the box. I snagged my old pair of 650s from my studio, plugged them in, and...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I second this. I own a set of classics. I wish I had gotten the noir (same headphones, minus 100 and looks nicer to me) I rock these all day long at work with my Fulla 3. They sound fantastic. They’re not picky at all about source gear. It’s a fun sound that is great for any genre.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

After spending some time with my Jotunheim 2, understanding a bit more how the SE and Balanced outputs sound, it reminds me of my tube integrated (not in exact sound but in the feature). My integrated amp has a switch for ultralinear/triode output topologies. Basically two amps in one. Well...

New at Drop: Sennheiser HD 8XX

I think this is a great idea and it sounds like a promising product. I owned an HD800S and it did certain things incredibly well. However, I sold it for the same reasons they're putting this puppy out. Still less bass than I liked, and a bit wonky up top sometimes. I don't care if it comes...

Schiit Jotunheim 2 - Impressions Thread

Well said. My tube amp measures quite poorly compared to some of my other gear, but it’s the only thing I would openly weep over if it were gone. Also, I had a NOS R2R DAC that measured broken just about. But it sounded so sweet and musical. It hurt my heart to have to sell it.

Schiit Jotunheim 2 - Impressions Thread

Well said. Great review. I’m still coming to grips with mine. I enjoy it very much though. It’s a bit of a departure from my normal amp sound, but that’s why I bought it...to get some other flavors. It fits the bill nicely. I tend to favor more laid back type sound for my “end of day”...
