AKG 7 & 8 Series are definitely underrated which is fine by me as it keeps used market prices down. In fact just picked up a low priced pair of K240 Sextett's (LP Model) off EBay from Austria which are on the way which I will mod like my K712's, you snooze, you loose.

Yeah, I look forward to trying them in the studio as well, I've taken a short summer break from recording but I can imagine they could be excellent there.

In all honesty these headphones are excellent with minor modding and EQ'ing. I just picked up a pair of Austrian made K712's and took out old stock pads and replaced with Brainwavz protein elites and Dekoni Nuggets for headband and they sound wonderful, ymmv.

Moon Audio Silver Dragon works nicely if adding a bit of EQ, otherwise stock cable is smoother imo and differences are not dramatic. For what it's worth these headphones sound beautiful, ymmv.

Admittedly, when I said " smoked " I may have been over stepping, I simply prefer the Lawton modded TH 600 signature to that of the Beyerdynamic dt990 premium. Now that being said the DT990 are a very fine headphone indeed and I will pull from storage and give another listen then post results.

I have the Beyerdynamic DT990 600 Ohm premium and my Fostex TH 600 with Lawton Mod smoke the Beyerdynamic DT990, YMMV.
