The New AEON 2: It's The End Of MrSpeakers

I'm not sure I'm going to do such a good job but I'll do my best. I'll start by saying the 3D+ feature on the ifi iDSD BL is a fun and enjoyable bonus to an already exceptional product. In other words, it's cool! Others have described it as injecting a little bit of a "balanced" feel into a...

The New AEON 2: It's The End Of MrSpeakers

I bought a pair of AF2C at Can Jam NYC after hearing a pair that the nice dude from Dan Clark Audio said wasn't burned in yet. Still sounded great to me. After 11 days of heavy use as well as leaving it plugged in with some music playing overnight a few times, I can't tell any difference. It...

Thanks! When it comes to actually buying these things, do you have a site or store that you trust? Or am I just eBaying and hoping for the best?

When I first read this I said to myself “OH GOD what am I getting myself into.” But now it’s kind of exciting. I like living on the edge. Thanks for the tips!

    Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers

Excited to say that I just ordered a Lyr 3 and can’t wait to get into it. This will be my first tube amp. I got it because I came away from Can Jam NYC with a new pair of the Aeon 2 Closed and it’s a litttttle harsh with regards to detail and digital etch coming through the bifrost Multibit and...

CanJam NYC 2020 Impressions Thread (February 15-16, 2020)

I went in to this year's can jam expecting to like Aeon 2 Closed as someone who very much liked (and still owns) the original Aeon Closed. I did not expect to like the Aeon 2 Closed so much that I would leave with both my old Aeon Closed AND and Aeon 2 Closed in my backpack (with a Vivo cable...

Aeon 2 closed Impressions and Discussion

Can you comment on which cable you ordered? If you happened to get the costlier cable, and had a DUMMER cable around for comparison, any difference you could hear between the two? $200 is a lot of money for me.

    Schiit Owners Unite

After doing some soul searching, and some wallet searching, I decided to go with the bifrost multibit over the modi multibit not because I thought the sound would be dramatically different, but because I wanted something future proof and upgradable. I already blew through an original modi and a...

Holy heck my new bifrost multibit slams (and sounds really great). The difference in impact is more immediate than I anticipated.

MrSpeakers Ether CX - $899 from Massdrop

I agree with FangJoker I wouldn't describe either as warm and I wouldn't necessarily say one is warmer than the other. They're not cold or overly clinical either, certainly not like some Beyer cans I've owned and loved. They're both pretty damn neutral. It's fairly heretical but they also...

MrSpeakers Ether CX - $899 from Massdrop

If there was a clear and simple answer, I would give it to you right away, but I don't think there are any clear answers in audiophilia, especially with regards to "does X sound better than Y." They are both great. The Ether C is more open sounding and may sacrifice a very small amount of...

MrSpeakers Ether CX - $899 from Massdrop

I found the AFC and Ether C pretty close in terms of everything, detail included, except for sound stage, where ether c is a clear winner. I also think the ether c had a tad bit more of an even and audiophile friendly presentation. Both are great, though.

MrSpeakers Ether CX - $899 from Massdrop

Thanks for keeping us in the know! I'm definitely grabbing one as soon as the drop opens. I've been a huge fan of my aeon flow closed but after hearing the ether c at can jam, I've caught the bug. I also literally caught a bug, because I got super sick right after can jam lol. But it was worth it.

Dumb question about balanced vs. not balanced out of a dac

hey all, I'm going to give my usual caveat that I am not an engineer or an audio professional, so this question may seem rudimentary but I did a fair amount of searching and couldn't find a clear, simple answer. So here it is: if you take an unbalanced output from a dac (such as RCA) and feed...

I agree that the AFC scales well with equipment and despite its efficiency (I'm not an engineer or anything so I'm not exactly sure how efficient it is, but it's rated at 14 ohms, so...) it seems to respond well to power, and sounds great coming out of my Asgard 2 or my micro idsd black label

MrSpeakers Ether CX - $899 from Massdrop

I'm also hoping this becomes a regular drop as this completely flew under my radar and I definitely would have grabbed one for that price, especially after hearing more of the Ether C at CanJam NYC. I'm hoping massdrop ordered more than the original drop called for, and they'll list them for...

You might be looking for something a little higher end, but I am very happy with my Asgard 2. Owned it for years and it consistently performs well under a variety of circumstances and from different sources (from fiio mobile sources, to using my micro idsd black label as a source, to my modi 2...

Dropping back into the forums for the first time in a while. Went to Can Jam expecting to be sold on a new pair of headphones (and I almost was... but I can't afford the ether 2 at $2k). Instead I walked away super impressed with Schiit's stuff. I've used a modi 2 U going into an Asgard 2 as my...

A couple quick things I've been thinking about as I continue to enjoy the AEON: 1. Burning them in for about 10 hours each evening/night and listening the next morning has been really fun. The changes, while minor, are certainly noticeable to my ears. The biggest change: I think they're...

Yesterday I used the AEON for a marathon gaming session while playing Horizon: Zero Dawn on PS4 pro using an ifi micro idsd black label via optical. Just got em! Was worried about getting a box with a broken seal and/or a frayed headphone cable (as an earlier post mentioned) but they arrived in pristine condition. Pictures really don't do these things justice - they are gorgeous. In person the blue looks really unique: deeper and with a...

AEON, MrSpeakers' New Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphone

Seems like most people in this thread have experience with a lot of really expensive headphones. Comparisons to the ethers, focals, and lcd-2/3/x are certainly interesting, but I'm also curious to hear the thoughts of those who, like me, have never spent serious time with a headphone above the...
