Poll: Can you hear sound over 20kHz?
With the test, I can only really hear 18 kHz and 19 I can sorta feel but not hear. I am 23 but I hear all sorts of random, high pitched electrical noises in the house. I wonder what frequency those noises are at?- MegaBass18

Testing Headphones Decibel level
Quote: Even after turning the volume up and cupping to make sure that there was some isolation with the microphone, the highest I got up to was 75. Could be a defective mic though.- MegaBass18

a research on ears health after continuous use of headphones? Experience?
Quote: I understand where you're coming from. Thanks for the suggestion! It was just kind of a spur of the moment gut reaction to the thread since I almost exclusively listen to electronic music. The headphones I have do a great job of making me feel like I'm in the middle of a club and...- MegaBass18

Testing Headphones Decibel level
I don't know if those cellphone ones are at all accurate, but according to the microphone on my Galaxy S2, my normal listening level is around 60-70 decibels. I tried to get it up to and past 85 decibels and that was like HOLY **** THIS IS PAIN volume level so I'm not sure if my ears are just...- MegaBass18

Man, this whole thread is very depressing. What's the point of listening to music if its not loud?!- MegaBass18

Can Amps have built-in EQ or SQ?
I didn't know what forum to put this in so I apologize to the moderators if they have to move it. After going through some of the literature in the Sound Science forum, there is quite a bit of skepticism regarding the ability of Amps and DACs to affect sound quality despite many, many...- MegaBass18

Possible to measure the output of my headphones?
Quote: I assume by "soundcard line input" you mean the microphone jack (input)? I installed the REQWizard and played around with some of the measurements, but I have no idea what any of them do. Can you point me in the right direction of what test I should be using so I can research...- MegaBass18

How aware are audio engineers of Psychoacoustics and other BS beliefs?
Quote: I don't know how widespread this mentality is in the UK but in the USA a few years ago, it took on the form of a movement. The CDC (Center for Disease Control; governmental body) had to run a counter campaign with PSAs, brochures, billboards telling people that vaccination was not...- MegaBass18

Possible to measure the output of my headphones?
Quote: Hey, thanks jaddie! Do you know what cables I would need to measure the amp? Quote: That what I thought originally but I was just messing around with digital volume vs physical volume (on the amp) just to see what different sounds could be achieved. I have also been...- MegaBass18

Possible to measure the output of my headphones?
Recently, I have found that my headphones sound different. They feel... less powerful even though I only received a few weeks ago. I am using a Schiit Audio Magni amp and the headphones haven't gone through any trauma of any kind. Maybe I've gotten used to the sound and don't feel the...- MegaBass18

Did anybody use JPLAY? Did you hear any difference?
I voted for "Heard a noticeable positive difference", but the first thing I thought when I heard it was that it seemed like it was simply digitally increasing the volume. I'm almost positive though that the quality was the exact same. Setup: Windows 7 64-bit foobar2000 Schiit Audio...- MegaBass18

Amp and Digital Volume
Thanks a bunch NA Blur! I am really interested in the science behind so I am trying to understand the little snippet you posted from Schiit's site. Let me tell you what I understood from it and then maybe you can correct me if I'm wrong. The noise floor is the threshold level where...- MegaBass18

Amp and Digital Volume
A little bit about my set up first: I am using the Jaycar rebrand of the Brainwavz HM-5 headphones and a Schiit Magni Amp. Generally, I know that you should keep the digital volume on the computer at 100 and manipulate the physical volume on the amp. However, this does not leave much...- MegaBass18

In 2012, how "bad" are default laptop sound cards?
I was looking for a thread like this a few days back before I was able to test this for myself! My friend purchased the Brainwavz HM-5 headphones as well as the Schiit Audio Modi (DAC) and Magni (Amp). The DAC alone helped tremendously because his laptop is not that great and his speakers...- MegaBass18

Schiit Magni Headphone Amplifier
I am a newbie to the audiophile world. Will the Magni work without an external DAC? Are there any USB to RCA cables available if I just want to use the amp? Thanks in advance.- MegaBass18
