I also own the HD 439, and I also experience the creaking when I move it around, so I would say that it's normal. It shouldn't be a bother since you won't hear it when you are listening to your music, so don't think about it too much.- OneRhythm

Just bought Bose AE-2 for $99.
The Sennheiser HD439 are also very comfortable. I also own the Ultrasone Pro 750 and the UE 6000, and the Sennheiser HD439 is easily less lighter and much more comfortable than both. Just bought Bose AE-2 for $99.
Sennheiser HD 439. I believe they are currently on sale at Best Buy for $80 and they are definitely a better alternative to the Bose AE-2.- OneRhythm

What about the UE 6000? I find that they are great closed all-around headphones for multiple genres of music, especially when you consider its price ($199). They are supposedly "noise cancelling" but the noise cancelling feature is definitely a bass booster rather than actual noise...- OneRhythm
