Review by 'Gruffnutz' on item 'PURE i-20 Digital Dock for iPod/iPhone with Hi-Fi Quality Audio and Video Output'
I think some of the reviews above have missed the real point of the i-20 for audiophiles, it provides an excellent spdif output from an iPod. Used with an external DAC the sound is excellent and having tried some of the alternatives (Wadia, Onkyo) I'm not convinced their digital outs are any...- Gruffnutz

Sennheiser's Own Balanced Cables for HD 600/650, HD 700, and HD 800 Available This Week
So much BS here. Anyone out there 'voicing' cables is both deluded and no longer in the fidelity business. The much vaunted 'synergy' is simply the flawed process of attempting to correct design deficiencies in one part of a system by overlaying 'compensating' design deficiencies in...- Gruffnutz

Powering dt 990 on a pc
I have 250Ohm DT990s and use both the Asus Xonar STX soundcard (on a desktop PC) and a Fiio E10 with my laptop. Either will drive the Beyers very loud and provide very good sound quality. I advise you to take the 'xonar amp doesn't cut it' and 'low level hum' complaints with a grain of...- Gruffnutz

Android-fi!
Quote: So, as usual, Australia gets the borked US quad-core Qualcom processor version with the integrated (read crap) DAC while Europe gets the octo-core CPU and the Wolfson DAC. No S4 for me then until the Euro spec ones are available secondhand. Why would I 'upgrade' to a phone...- Gruffnutz

Best $100 or less portable headphones?
Haven't compared them to the UEs but I love my Aurvana X-Fi phones for flying. They compare very favorably with BOSE offerings.- Gruffnutz

Android phones and USB DACs
Quote: Thanks; that makes sense. So, the shots of other people running Neutron, Poweramp etc. with a USB DAC are from devices that have USB sound enabled natively?- Gruffnutz

Android phones and USB DACs
So, I have my Fiio E10 working well with my Acer A500 under USB Audio Recorder but I dont understand howsome folks are running USB audio in other media players such as Neutron. As soon as I select the 'play in media player' option in USB Audio Recorder the sound reverts to the internal...- Gruffnutz

Reply to review by 'gruffnutz' on item 'PURE i-20 Digital Dock for iPod/iPhone with Hi-Fi Quality Audio and Video Output'
20% improvement?!? Well worth $40 then... I find your review surprising and confusing in equal measure. If the i-20 does indeed provide '20% more quality', as you state, then it is a triumph. I actually agree with you on this; the i-20 sounds much better than the most iPod line outs. But the...- Gruffnutz

First ipod upgrade
Forget about a 'portable tube amp'. Running tubes at the voltages required for a portable amp is pointless. The cheap and easy solution would be to get a Fiio E11. Drives the 250 ohm DT990s easily to skull crushing volumes and sounds very good. That's what I use daily with mt Dt990s.- Gruffnutz
