Hiby R6 Pro - serious upgrade to popular DAP
I just bought an R6 Pro a week ago and I think it's very good. Definitely not the most "reference" DAP I've had, but definitely the most fun. I like that it's one of the few current generation Android DAPs that has Play Store support. I think it pairs very well with my Fiio FH-7 nicely, 846s...- fonsecaj

FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out
Same here. I usually just move the wheel to invoke the onscreen volume control and then adjust from there. My old Onkyo DP-X1 had a similar problem, but much worse.- fonsecaj

FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out
Agreed. When I got the X7II I also got an AK SR-15. I thought they both sounded very good, but the AK was definitely more stable on the software side. What put the Fiio over edge and why I kept it was the integrated Viper effects. I had known this was coming I would have sent the X7 back...- fonsecaj

FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out
Had enough and rolled back to 1.0.6. Is there a way to keep it from asking about installing the OTA update? Even with using the old Fiio player on 1.0.7 the device seemed to be sluggish and didn't always respond to touch input. I don't need that feature.- fonsecaj

FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out
Thanks, I appreciate the speedy reply and the information. For now I've rolled back to the old player apk. I'd rather have Viper than a sort of functional EQ. Trying to set the sliders was maddening with them mostly not responding to touch. The firmware itself seems solid but it looks like...- fonsecaj

Am I missing something with how to operate the EQ? I'd say less than 1 out of every 10 attempts to move a slider actually registers. It also seems like the bottom row of preset names doesn't actually fit on the screen. I also don't see how to save a user preset. Additionally, hitting the...- fonsecaj

Hi, I'm trying to install V4A on my X1. I got the rooting done but none of the download links for the TWRP or V4A images on this thread work anymore. Does anyone have updated links they can point me towards so I can grab these? Thanks!- fonsecaj

It's interesting that you mentioned that about the 2 card instability. I just got an X7II last week and actually set up a return to Amazon for it and ordered an AK SR-15 because the X7II was extremely unstable (locking up, audio dropping during songs). I was a bit disappointed because I...- fonsecaj

Grado Bushmills X - Grado's first closed-back headphone?
I got my Bushmills today and I have to say I by far prefer my GH-1s. I think the bass on the GH-1 has both better extension and impact and the detail in the upper mids is much better. The soundstage is more to my liking, also. I tried the Bushmills with the stock S, quarter modded S...- fonsecaj

Grado Bushmills X - Grado's first closed-back headphone?
Mine are with FedEx for delivery in the AM. Based on the prices these things were getting ebay maybe I should leave them new in box and wait a couple of months. That plan will probably last about 2 minutes after the box gets here as I rip them open like a rabid kid on xmas morning and...- fonsecaj

ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |
I just called Onkyo US customer support about the wobbly headphone jacks. The rep said they were aware of the issue and his advice was to return the unit to the dealer and wait a few month before getting another one. Kind of disappointing because I really like the SQ on the unit. So then I...- fonsecaj

Both the AK100 and AK120 players I had also attenuated the volume when the EQ was in line, so from my perspective the fact that the DX80 also did it wasn't unusual. Does this bother you enough that it makes this device unacceptable?- fonsecaj

I've never heard any of the cheaper Grado phones, so I can't comment on the signature of the 225e, but I can say for sure that the DX80 pairs better with my GH-1 Grados than anything else I've tried with them. I had actually tried them with an AK Jr and thought it sounded thin and lacked the...- fonsecaj

Just got my DX80 today and I'm amazed at the SQ especially for the price point. I've had 3 different AK players (100/120/Jr) and none of them wowed me like the DX has so far and it's not even burned in yet. I upgraded to 1.3 right off the bat and had no problems scanning a 200 and 128 card...- fonsecaj

Grado GH-1 Discussion
How about this: We all pick a number between 1 and 1000 and post it here (to avoid duplicates). Then write that on cup with a sharpie. After we all get our numbers we delete any post relating to this and then replace them with serious discussions about how the numbered GH1s are the TRUE...- fonsecaj

Grado GH-1 Discussion
Did Grado make more of the GH-1? I just bought a pair at B&H in NY today and the website still shows they have stock. Up until last week B&H had them listed as "discontinued". By the way, I love 'em. I've been on a Grado hunt for the last couple of months and these were the ones I was...- fonsecaj

I just wanted to thank all you guys who participated in this thread and the OP for starting it. I've been wanting to get a pair of open back headphones and I liked what I'd read in the past about Grado. But which pair to get? The SR-325e and RS2e were squarely in my price range, but I...- fonsecaj

Shure SE846 Impressions Thread
So much for waiting a month. As an indication of how much I love the way these things sound, I went ahead and got another (third) pair. After three days of putting them through the wringer, no buzzing in either ear. I think these are good to go. The production date was 12/17/2013. Amazon...- fonsecaj

Shure SE846 Impressions Thread
Well, after more experimenting and having the buzz come and go almost on cue, I'm going to bag the 846 for now. There's definitely a defect and in my case it spanned two production batches. Batches that aren't early runs of the product. They're currently in the local FedEx drop box...- fonsecaj

Shure SE846 Impressions Thread
Regarding the buzzing, I've been able to consistently reproduce it using a tone generator at 250Hz while gently touching and releasing or gently tapping it with my finger. When I release the buzz occurs and then sustains for a second or so. Doing the same stuff, even much harder, to the left...- fonsecaj
