I emailed Gary about this, it's not hissing, it's actually static, which is natural when you blast the volume to full. As his guide says, the best results are at 60%. So what I do now is turn up the source volume and put the amp volume at around 50-60%

I can't comment on the K81's, but as for the ES7's. I had them for only a month (brand new), and if they weren't used, I'd always have them out and open on my stand to stretch them out. I admit they do hurt your ears a bit, but no where close to what they were when I first got them in the mail...

Right now i'm using the 2-flange eartips (ER6i) with my ER4P's. The triple-flange just hurts my ears, like spgrater said. The 2-flange tips definately feel more comfortable. However, having down both the ER6i and ER4P, the ER6i's have a the better seal.

I don't think it's about the IEM, i think it's more about the fit and eartips you use anyways I'd also recommend the ER6i's, the wires are nice and small and very light weight. The 2-flange gives me the best seal and fit, I jam them in to the point when you pull them out, it's like a suction...
