A/Bing the CLR100 and COR150... I'm pretty sure they're the same driver.  The different housing with additional venting gives the COR a massive bass boost, but otherwise they have just about identical frequency response to my ears.  I use nearly the exact same parametric EQ settings to get them...

    The discovery thread!

Quote:   I haven't heard the FX40s, only the FX3X, and I'd say these have a similar signature to the FX3X but sound a whole lot better for much less money.  I think I remember reading that Dsnuts ordered the CLR100s, so maybe he can chime in on that...

    The discovery thread!

So I just received the AT CLR100s in the mail.  At first blush, these sound like much more refined versions of the JVC FX3X.  The bass reaches strong and deep with great impact but doesn't overpower.  The lower mids are a tad muddy, but pretty easy to EQ.  Pretty massive bumps around 3.5-5.5...

    First Pair of Armature IEM

If you just want to sample a dual armature earphone to see if you like how they sound without spending too much, the previous generation Apple In-Ears (MA850G/B) can be had new on eBay for ~$30 US.  It's no Etymotic, but its high end is surprisingly smooth and well-extended, and it's as quick...

    VSonic GR07 Bass Edition Impressions

Quote:   You know, I don't know whether it's brain burn-in, drivers loosening up, fatigue from my last extended listening session, or what, but when I came back to the BEs after several hours doing other things (even without burning them at the time), the bass sounded exactly right to me...

    VSonic GR07 Bass Edition Impressions

Quote:   I sure hope so!  Even so, they take to EQ really well, so I'm not concerned.  I'm not sure I'd agree about bass quantity/quality being better than the CKN70... those sound like really good subwoofers to me.  The GR07 is wonderfully quick, but sounds a hair lean to me and like it...

    VSonic GR07 Bass Edition Impressions

I have 3 complaints with the CKN70s:   1) The overall spectral balance is kind of wonky... they have serious midbass/lower mids, and they are significantly recessed around 2 kHz, which hurts clarity in vocals, guitars, etc.   2) They require some pretty crazy EQ to smooth out the high...

Sony MH1C - Right Earphone Sudden Low Volume

Reports seem to indicate that it's condensation on the diaphragm, and the fact that it happens when it's cold would seem to support that.  I've had the same problem with mine, mainly if I've been wearing them for a long time in a cool to cold environment and I'm sweating a little bit.  I can...

    VSonic GR07 Bass Edition Impressions

Hmmm... any comparisons between the Audio Technica CKN70 and GR07BE?    The CKN70 is a very capable IEM but the spectral balance is kind of harsh.  If I EQ the CKN70 and the MH1C to my taste so that they sound similar, the CKN70 is clearly much faster, clearer, and more detailed.  If the...

    The discovery thread!

Quote: That's how it goes.   Well, not sure whether it was burn-in, brain burn-in, or tip rolling, but using the medium R1 tips with a 1.5 octave midbass cut (-4.5 dB) and a few small cuts around 5 kHz, 6.5 kHz, and 7 kHz to take the edge off the sibiliance, and the CKN70 are my...

    The discovery thread!

Quote: I haven't heard the FXZ100, so I can't speak to that, but the CKN70 will definitely slam with the right tips for your ears.  I get best bass results with the Brainwavz R1 double flanges, which can keep up with my MH1C.   Speaking of MH1C, listening to the CKN70 showed me the...

    The discovery thread!

Man, CKN70 + R1 double flange + Noisia: "Tryhard" = SLAM.  This is not even fair to the MH1C.  The MH1C still wins on overall smoothness and unoffensiveness, but that's the only edge it has any more.  Good for background music if I need to concentrate on something else, but it's downright boring...

    The discovery thread!

Quote:   I'm using the large Brainwavz R1 tips, which are almost identical to the stock large, but they're a lot easier to put on and take off while tip rolling.  I gently insert the IEMs to where they naturally want to stop (which is about where the top of the ring barely touches my ear)...

    The discovery thread!

My CKN70 came today around noon!  Pretty quick... I ordered them on eBay Thursday morning, they shipped from Japan late Friday night (Saturday afternoon Japan time), scanned in NYC Sunday afternoon, spent a day in customs (presumably), and made their way down the east coast and to my door this...

[REVIEW] Sony MH1 – The Best Kept Secret

Every once in a while, if it's humid where I am and/or I'm just sweating, I'll get a gradual volume fade in one or both channels after listening for a while.  I chalk it up to condensation.  Not sure if it's a design flaw or just something that comes with the territory with this type of IEM, but...

Quote:   Well, this finally sold it for me.  Between the CKN70 and the XB90EX, I pulled the trigger on the CKN70.  Should get here next week, hopefully... I can't wait to compare these to my MH1C!

Quote: How (quantitatively and qualitatively) would you rate the bass and sub bass vs. your MH1C?  I love how deep and powerful my MH1C gets without ever sounding bloated in the mid bass or lower mid region, and if the CKN70 can keep up, I'm sold.

    The discovery thread!

Quote:   OK, so the MH1C has better bass than the CKN70?  Because as far as balance within the low end and with the rest of the frequency spectrum is concerned, the MH1C is pretty much exactly where I want it.  I could do with a little more bass or a very little less, but not too far in...

    The discovery thread!

Quote: I am a sub-bass guy, but not at the expense of everything else, if that makes any sense.  My biggest problems with IEMs like the Brainwavz M5, the JVC FX3X, and the TDK MT-300 is how peaky the upper mids and treble can be in spots while sometimes other frequencies get lost.  The...

    The discovery thread!

I have to know, how does the quantity and depth of bass with the CKN70 compare to the MH1C?  I assume the quality is in another league and that the rest of the frequency spectrum outclasses the MH1C as well.  Also, how does it compare to the XB90EX?  I'm looking to upgrade my MH1C for more...

    Brainwavz M2 bass response

I kind of expected a quite bassy IEM from the M2 as well based on various reviews, but what I got was something very mid-forward instead.  It's not the most detailed IEM in the world and it's got a very heavily colored sound, but out of everything I have, vocals sound best on the M2 for reasons...

    Brainwavz M5 concerns

Quote:   My assessment of the M2 was the same... I was expecting a bass monster, but ended up with almost no bass (but a very clear, clean, and fun signature through the rest of the spectrum, very forward sounding).  I mean, I love the way it sounds, but I was completely missing the...

    Brainwavz R1 Review

Quote:   Quote: My experience with Brainwavz indicates pretty spotty QC.  While I like my M2 a lot, there's almost no audible bass below 80 Hz or so.  However, the rest of the spectrum is, while colored, pretty unoffensive and sounds good with minimal or no EQ.  However, reviews...

    Brainwavz M5 concerns

Quote: Yeah, MP4Nation had really quick customer service when I had an issue with the R1 polarity being reversed in the right ear... I got a reply within a couple of hours, tops, and they stayed in touch until the issue was resolved.  No complaints here!  I have since purchased another R1...
