New model Cowon - Plenue D2
I'll accept that compromise. The UI on the other hand has to be nothing short of a night and day difference. The D1's is pretty clunky, even with the patches. Less features and less responsive than the older J3 and S9 I used to have.- cloudscapes

New model Cowon - Plenue D2
Once apon a time, Cowon used to think battery life was important. So far it's looking like a downgrade from my D1. Hope the UI is responsive at launch this time.- cloudscapes

Cowon Plenue 2 - Taking it a step further.
I got the D when it was released, and the UI was abysmal in performance, and a downgrade in features from previous cowon DAPs. Took 6 months for it to be patched to semi-usability, but it's still somewhat lacking to this day. Hope they learned their lesson and will put extra effort in the...- cloudscapes

I honestly can't hear any hiss with the D with sennheiser momentum phones, so your personal mileage may vary- cloudscapes

It's been doing it ever since I got it late december. Both 1.03 (I think) stock firmware, and with 1.10. Yes to deleting/adding stuff. It updates the library when I change stuff.- cloudscapes

anyone else frequently getting "file not found" when switching tracks? only way I seem to avoid it completely is fully pause or stop music before I pick a new song.- cloudscapes

Can confirm UI responsiveness is much better with 1.10b1. I was one of the most critical of the lack of responsiveness in this thread 3-4 weeks ago, I can def say it's improved! It could be made even better ;) ..but I'm happy with how it is now. I can flick much faster without any misclicks or...- cloudscapes

"Can you tell me why sony on zx series or ibasso recommend burn in?" I haven't the slightest idea. In the case of sony, I wouldn't put it past them to try and fool customers with one of their players with some exaggerated bs, since they've been caught doing it for sd cards as recently...- cloudscapes

Cowon Plenue D
Speaking as someone who designs analog/digital audio gear (not daps). Burn-in, unless we're talking about something physical like a speaker cone, or something inconsistent like vacuum tubes, is all in our heads. Modern daps use precision components and have for years. Even the lower...- cloudscapes

Personally, as someone who owns one, I just want the relative smoothness and responsiveness of cowon's own J3 back, from 2010. No opinion on brucebanner's other comments, but I agree with him on lag. This amount of lag should no longer be acceptable. It doesn't need to be as smooth as an...- cloudscapes

~ Eh, it happens. ~ I'm just going to keep harping onto the lag. I do think it's the single biggest flaw it has. If they improve that, I would have no trouble recommending it to anyone. ~ They have fixed UI lag in the past. I bought the S9 shortly after it came out, and I remember a...- cloudscapes

Cowon Plenue D
Hey thread is back! Wonder why it was locked a few days ago. Anyway, after a week of use (3-5 hours a day) I figure I'd add/elaborate a few points. ~ I've gotten used to the UI lag a little, but my earlier comments still stand. In summary, not expecting phone responsiveness, but it is...- cloudscapes

Cowon Plenue D
I don't know. Maybe a small bit, but I did notice the heavy lag when I turned it on for the first time without my files. My J3 and the new D have the exact same 7,500 files on them, and the J3's UI lags less. So even if the number of files have an impact, the J3 appears to handle it...- cloudscapes

Cowon Plenue D
You're right, it will get better over the course of next year, just as it did with past players. I'm still scratching my head though. A positive I'll add to my initial list, it does boot up faster than the J3, with the exact same 7,500 files! Even without using sleep.- cloudscapes

Cowon Plenue D
I accept that it's not iphone speed, but the issue (in my opinion) is that it's not even J3 speed. A dap by the same company, that came out five years earlier. That makes me scratch my head. I think that's the point I was trying to say. There's been a little regression in speed and options...- cloudscapes

Just got mine, here are my first impressions. My other DAPs were rockboxed iriver H140 -> cowon S9 -> cowon J3. Headphones are senn momentums (non bluetooth). Upgraded the plenue D to 1.02. I'm going to be more critical than praise, because that's just how I am. It's in hope that issues can be...- cloudscapes

Best/closest Cowon S9 replacement
I looked at the iAudio 10, but it doesn't seem to have any buttons, aside from volume. The capacitive "pad" on the front doesn't really count, since I can't really use it from my pockets. Thanks though. When I posted this initially, I hadn't known the Z2 existed! It isn't listed as an...- cloudscapes

Best/closest Cowon S9 replacement
Hey all, I've had my S9 since early 2009, and before than a rockboxed H140. My S9 is becoming increasingly glitchy and has been through a lot. Including staying dunked 2/3rds in water overnight (it survived after taking it apart and drying it in rice for a day, lucky!). I'd like to look up...- cloudscapes
