QDC - Discussion and Impressions Thread

I ended up taking the deal before I changed my mind. While I could immediately tell the signature was more in line with my preferences, I can't say that there is a significant improvement in resolution/details or soundstage over my Massdrop Plus. Do the Geminis have a lot to gain from a...

QDC - Discussion and Impressions Thread

I have an opportunity to get the qdc Geminis at a crazy steal, but they don't come with any tips. Do the Geminis have a standard tip diameter (that might fit spiral dots or similar tips)? Also do the Geminis have more forward mids compared to the Andros? I demoed the andros and found the mids...

    Neutral/mid centric IEMs

Hey everyone! I'm currently using the Massdrop Plus as my daily driver, and I do enjoy it a lot, but the upgrade itch has come back... I've always preferred a more neutral or mid focused sound. I also enjoy the clarity of the RE600, but that has since broken. I had a chance to try the CA Andros...

    AirPods

Something I'm wondering about is the sound quality that comes from use of that lightning to 3.5 adapter. It looks very sleek and I would assume that there needs to be a DAC somewhere in that tiny enclosure.

    Best ultraportable DAC?

I recently purchased the Lenovo Ideapad 710s, and to my horror I discovered that the onboard audio is horrendous. I never realized DACs could make such an astounding difference but now I know otherwise. Bass sounds utterly bloated to the point where you can hear a distinct decrease of volume in...

    Good iPhone lightning DAC/amp solutions?

With the near certainty that the upcoming iPhone 7 will not be carrying a headphone jack, I am on one hand mortified of upgrading, and on the other hand quietly satisfied that this motivates me to get a proper portable setup. I know that Apple plans on including a lightning to headphone jack...

    Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)

Speaking of the aurisonics, Joker, you had actually recommended the rockets as a successor to the RE400 and or RE262 but I was too broke at the time to bite the... well, rockets.   I was just wondering what you might recommend nowadays as an upgrade now that the aurisonics have been...

    Pioneer SE-A1000 (Sennheiser HD 650 for $45?)

As someone who has never owned headphones due to the desirability of portable IEMs, my pair broke almost a year ago and I've been without portable audio for a long time. I've recently been searching for a replacement pair of IEMs but after more consideration, I am also willing to get headphones...

How to repair thin IEM cable?

My RE262s have snapped on both sides of the split and after stripping off the cable for one of the sides, I find myself in a hard spot. I have 2 copper lines coming out from each end, but neither is covered by its own wiring. I'm assuming they were separated within the cable I just stripped off...

IEMs similar to the RE262 that won't break the bank?

It's been a worthwhile 3 or so years since I got my RE262s and their silky smooth midrange have really grown on me. Unfortunately, the cable running up to one of the drivers has literally snapped in half, and the other one is on the verge of snapping as well. So now I'm looking for a new pair of...

    Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)

Hi Joker,   After my RE262s decided to disintegrate on me (don't ask), I am on the lookout for a new pair of mid-centric IEMs to replace the 262s. My eye is currently set on the RE600s since it seems like an appropriate successor to the RE262, not to mention it is 50% of its original starting...

    Is the RE600 worth purchasing?

It's been 3 years since I bought my RE262s but they have since then physically degraded and practically snapped in half. I have been eying the RE600 which looks pretty attractive for its asking price of 200$ nowadays, but I was just wondering if there are any other IEMS in this range worth...

    Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)

Hey Joker, I have been considering purchasing a moderately priced entry level pair of IEMs for my girlfriend for Christmas, and I've laid my eyes on the VSD3S for quite some time. I'm just wondering how they might compare to other earphones in the same 50ish dollars price range. Perhaps a score...

Unconsistently balanced sound coming from stereo speakers?

I recently had to reorganize the mess of cables under my desk, and in doing so, pulled on a few speaker cables here and there and now the sound coming out is no longer consistently balanced on both sides. If I twiddle with the parts going into my amp, it may get fixed, or become worse, and I've...

NOBLE CABLE CONTEST - WIN A NOBLE 6W

Just wondering, what happens if 2 people guess it correctly, or they both come equally close to guessing correctly? 47.2 72.5 92.8   EDIT: sorry, I know editing is technically not allowed but I just want to clarify that those are in pounds...

What advantages do a good DAC have over typical computer audio that doesn't have noise?

I've been looking into purchasing a DAC for my computer mainly for the convenience factor because it is quite a pain to bend down to my desktop to plug in some headphones a few times a day. On the other hand, the prospect of improved sound quality is a major plus as well, but I would just like...

    Stiffening/Hardening cable causing increased microphonics

I have had the RE-262 for over a year now and it still sounds great. The only problem is that the cable has gotten much stiffer and harder and because of this, microphonics have also increased significantly. I'm just wondering if there is any way to soften the cable or possibly completely...

Good successors to the RE-262 under 200 dollars?

I have stuck with the RE-262 for over a year and I must say that I have yet to find another IEM that I would be happy to switch to that isn't hundreds of dollars above my budget should my RE-262s ever break. I'm just wondering what others would suggest to someone who is crazy about that silky...

Why would 24 bit / 192 khz flac sound any better than 16 bit / 44.1 khz flac if both are lossless (if at all)?

I posted a simple question and I expected a simple answer, which I got a few billion posts behind :P , but I certainly did not expect such an active debate to spark up. I would have thought that this topic had been discussed into the ground already over the years but it seems like people can't...

    Philips Golden Ears challenge

I too am a musician (well I play an instrument so I guess that counts) and I also went through the timbre tests with relative ease. I couldn't necessarily point out the specific defects of the songs but something always sounded a bit off. Strangely though, I didn't find the mp3 tests as...

    Philips Golden Ears challenge

Wow the frequency band part on golden ears is less a gauge for being able to detect subtleties and more a memorization fest... All the different cut-offs/boosts are easily distinguishable from each other, and the normal version - til you have to name the exact band.
