Did not experience any noise problems with the Garage 1217 6sn7 adapter.

The Soviet 5U3C black plate sounds good to me, they are not that expensive compared to the popular rectifiers.

While at it, do give the EM/EA7s a try if you like more slam. They sound more or less like the FD7s, and more gain too.

Yup 6AS7G works nicely and 6SN7 too with an adapter, I use the Garage 1217 adapter in mine.

The circuit in the SE versions will shorten the life of the 6SN7. There is however an adapter for that with some resistor to make it work, shoot deyan a message.

I paired mine with a Bifrost 2, rca cleartop for the input, svetlana 6H5C power tube, russian film caps, and a choke. Sounds very nice.

I think they are made by Sylvania, GE tubes have those dots etched on the glass from what I know. Do they look like these?

I can’t say I prefer the Eitr as that is what I use when connecting it to the old macbook that wont work with unison, but using the iphone as transport and going back and forth using Eitr and Unison, I do find unison to sound somewhat softer.

Same with powering on the Crack, need to unplugh the usb cable from the computer if it sometimes sounds weird like resetting the connection.

HD650 will sound great when connected to good amplifiers. The Bottlehead Crack is one of them :L3000:

Yahoo! It is working now, MAC just needed a PRAM and SMC reset. Welp, I spoke too soon, after selecting Bigrost as the output device, it froze when I played music. Reinserted the usb cable and it came back to not selectable as an audio device again. Must be something with this mac and osx...

the first thing I noticed is that there is better separation and air, top end is smoother analog like, details are great but not harsh anymore. Will listen to it more.

I also use a BH Crack with HD650 and Modi MB before springing for the Bifrost 2. If you have the money, get one. If you like the multibit sound, you will like the Bifrost 2.

Welp, this is the end of the road for this macbook, this is a 2008 model... Can't upgrade the OS anymore. 10.11.6 is the latest for this mac, but is just refuses to die.

Thanks, tried them including turning off app nap. no bueno. Can't seem to get unison detected by the mac. but the Iphone can connect fine. Weird problem, as it should work. No problems using is with Eitr... The Bifrost 2 wont show in the options, unlike the Eitr and Modi MB.
