would the ESS 422H offer any "upgrade" over my T50RP MKII with thick generic pads?
a set of thick pads really made T50RP sound a lot better to me than with stock pads. (source JLH amp, transformer out CS4398 DAC) Would 422H offer any advantages over my Fostex cans?- karlsonklam

ZiShan T1 Hi-Fi Player Thread
My kid's T1 has died. He's guessing the battery. Is there a source at a reasonable price for that 114443p battery/equivalent? Are the leads hardwired to the battery? (or are there clips on the battery side?- karlsonklam

IEM suggestions under 300 for someone sensitive to snares/claps/cymbals
I'm curious too plus whether EQ can fix some things. How does this real drum kit miced reasonably well sound to you ? Its tough for me to evaluate mixes built upon sampled and modified loops.- karlsonklam

Obscure Chinese DAPs
regarding the Walnut F2 - what is its output impedance? Does the high Z-out in some of the Walnut and Zishan models result mainly from a series resistor? (or can op-amp be configured for current drive ?)- karlsonklam

ZiShan Z3 Hi-Fi Player Thread
100ohm Z out sounds like quite an interactive number with any rise/dip in earphone impedance. Can Z3 be set up so only the graphic EQ is in the chain? Some of my IEM are way too lean with the Walnut in its flat ("Jazz") position so could use some bass- upper bass boost for a more truthful...- karlsonklam

Jazz is flat in the world of the Walnut
I forgot to mention that those EQ curves were taken with no load other than the ~10K input of the soundcard. When looking at the line out I had an SHP9500 load on the headphone out and those curves looked approximately identical other than "Jazz" not having the HF droop seen at the headphone out.- karlsonklam

Jazz is flat in the world of the Walnut
Thanks for the insight. FWIW, I'd guess a Y coming out of the headphone jack with headphone on one side and soundcard/RTA on the other would (?) show some loading/highpass effects - but not the interaction of Z-out with the DUT's response. I mainly was curious of why there didn't seem any bass...- karlsonklam

Jazz is flat in the world of the Walnut
curious about why several of my IEM sound so anemic in the low end with the Walnut - even with its largest sounding EQ setting "JAZZ" and why "POP" is muted so much - - look at the curves below. Line Out with "JAZZ" looks very good Are the Zishan Z1 and Z2 EQ curves identical? How about...- karlsonklam

Where are the weak spots in the Bravo amps and how does one improve their reliability?
Thanks - sure appreciate the reply and I've a Yuanjing version which intermittently.goes into bursts of "white noise" (IIRC on one channel) - maybe that's a cold solder joint to one of the tube's grids (?) I sure would not want anything as complex as a DAC with solder joints that poor.- karlsonklam

A Stanton Dynaphase 60 Project
I forgot to say what a greast clean up and restoration job on the Dynaphase 60 that was done by WallofHooligans - in contrast I was lucky with mine being in pretty decent cosmetic shape. Another thing, regarding "coloration", there seems none appreciable on the binaural recording linked below...- karlsonklam

Are there some hearing protectors which can accommodate a 3 inch speaker?
- longing for an old school clunker to compete with my Dynaphase 60 ah - Faital's tab mounting system wastes space so probably "not" with this driver. - wonder how it might sound ? A 4 inch PVC coupler would just hold the speaker. What might work for the headband? dims of driver:- karlsonklam

A Stanton Dynaphase 60 Project
that "box" on the alnico cylinder is the magnet's return circuit https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/Magnetic_Circuits - can't remember the cap's value - I used a cheap bipolar electrolytic and wish had paralleled it with a bypass cap - maybe a Dayton 0.47uF film and foil. Mine has sat for...- karlsonklam

DT770 shell with Peerless Vali Driver
David McBean's "hornresp" is a totally free and light (<2MB) program used by hobbyist and pros alike which can model many types of loudspeaker cabinets and features a filter wizard which can model basic active highpass, lowpass and peaking filters. It also can examine some passive networks...- karlsonklam

DT770 shell with Peerless Vali Driver
interesting experiment. I wonder if there's a fudge with hornresp to predict the low end when coupled to the ear canal -? That's a huge Vas and low fs figure for something so small and light. Would a properly centered LCR notch filter nuke that annoying peak? https://i.imgur.com/NKZpGAk.png- karlsonklam

What is a non destructive way to remove the grill from an HE300' speaker ?
we have HE300 with one side fried and intend to try some other 50mm driver. The grill/baffle is glued to the front of the speaker. Will it pry off? - - would acetone melt the plastic? Is there a CA de-bonder which is safer?- karlsonklam

Where are the weak spots in the Bravo amps and how does one improve their reliability?
there's only three active devices per channel, but reviews (and my Yuanjing version's intermittent signal with "white noise" burst) seem to point to excessive problems of noise, crackle and failure to pass a signal. Are the active devices failing? (a starved tube whose heater V isn't too high...- karlsonklam

what are typical failure modes and parts fried when Vali 1 goes kaputt?
My Vali 1 was old but very few hours. It might be a Windows driver issue with my Aeolus MagiDAC (transformer out) too, but horrible IM garble distortion started up and possibly from trying to drive worthless but difficult to play Koss Prol 4AAAti (250 ohm) on energic percujssion. Can Vali 1...- karlsonklam

Schiit Decrapifier released - USB power isolator
has anyone "here" tried or seen a real test of the Elfidelity external USB isolator? - it appears to use a small switching supply and passive filtering - I got a Behringer interface which has a 15KHx low level (~20dB above the noise floor) spike on my old laptop and its suggested the USB power...- karlsonklam

How to safely disassemble vintage Stanton Dynaphase 60?
thanks! - 47uF seems large for a highpass cap - could not see any decimal point for a "4.7" - ordered some 47uF/50v Xicon - wonder if a good headphone could be made from say a Faital 3fe20 -?- karlsonklam

JVC HA-MR77X top of the line JVC x series
yeah - perhaps I'm asking for a wee too much but OTOH we see competent electronics with nice chassis such as Emotiva's XDA1/2 going for $200->$250 - seems like that would be more involved and expensive to produce than a headphone (- guess the setup to mold plastic is very pricey) ordered the...- karlsonklam

JVC HA-MR77X top of the line JVC x series
I've probably a refresher of the general sound of this line with an HA-M55x which arrived today and compared it on a Vali to:He300, T20RP, EVO681, MV1, Pro4aaT. MV1 has likely the worst overall sound. EVO681 exhibited more powerful bass than M55x on a cut from Dean Martin's 1959 "A Winter...- karlsonklam
