I use it selectively. Mostly the lowest setting (red) for slightly less flat sound. Very useful on recording that have arbitrary left / right channel separation. Really noticeable on older recordings.

Native DSD playback on Hugo   I have been trying to get DSF files to play on Hugo using Audirvana.  Without iTunes iteration running, I can play a DSF file over the HD USB interface. However, the sample rate light shows PURPLE - this indicates DXD playback  How do I get the file to playback...

Oh I pretty much agree with you. My point was to consider more options and practicalities...as well as the contribution a good DAC can make. I also agree that the HD800 is best served by a great balanced amp.

Audio High in Mountain View, CA. I listened to the prototype from CES and pulled the trigger immediately.  Really enjoying Hugo with both HD800 and my beater Sennheiser Amperior for mobile / closed. I also just plugged in my vintage Yamaha YH-1 orthodynamics. Never sounded better.

Mine defaults to the HD USB input as well.   Regarding Version 1.89, how do you check the software  version?

It does look like the carpet knife mod suggested on the micro usb end could work...I just don't want to mess with it! Custom Cable was quick to verify that the Vertere cable fits securely. I will be ordering.   Nice support considering the UK to West Coast time difference

Not yet. I did have an email exchange with audioquest on this topic. They made the point that USB cables have an A and a B end. Apparently micro usb is typicall at the B end of the cable. So, their existing Cinnamon cable is available with USB A on on the source end and micro USB on the DAC end...

Don't panic. 1400 Pounds (including VAT) = $2346.12. This may represent an increase in the UK but this seems to be in line with the US price.  I'm enjoying Hugo so far. Will follow up when I have more to say.

...but my guess about the market would be the transport would be a smaller opportunity than Hugo as it stands. In any case, Chord is on to something here that they did not really hit with the Chordette or QuteHD.  

Good clarification. I agree a matching transport or mini server would would be nice. Perhaps I was in error but I think most people thing of DAP as an all in one solution.
