DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions
I pre-ordered it in December, 2011, and expected delivery in February. I waited all afternoon by the front window yesterday watching for Fedex. It arrived at 7:10pm. The box weighed ~35 pounds - quite a bit heavier than its little brother, the Sonett. My Sonett is sort of maxxed-out now --...- budx3385

Bricasti M1 DAC
This is a mini-review. For 3 years I have been listening to my LA7000 balanced headphones using a Meridian 808.2i CDP as source. I felt so lucky to have been able to purchase a B-stock unit new for way below MSRP, and after the warranty service replaced the disk drive, it worked flawlessly...- budx3385

Do you know who built this BH ?
I bought this beautiful BH on audiogon. The seller could not tell me who built it. I would like to find out, to see if s/he can help me optimize its SQ. It sounds pretty darned good with the SR-009, but I think it could be even better. Can you tell me anything about this builder?- budx3385

I am SO happy with my new Westone ES5!
I am SO happy. I let my new Westone ES5 burn in all day, and now the sound is SO wonderful. Tonality and timbre are spot-on, detail, dynamics and imaging are 5-star, and the coherence - YES - they truly speak with one voice. YEAH!!! I used ETY4S for many years, and with custom earmolds...- budx3385

A DNA Sonett story --- what cryo tubes can do
My brand new balanced Sonett arrived 2 wks ago,and I listened for a while and let it run a day and listened again. It was clear, quiet, dry and distant, lacking in detail, timbre and presence. Even after running a couple days, The switchcraft XLR sockets were really tight - it was hard, no...- budx3385

Trafo Head One or Zana Deux T ?
I want to try a tube amp again. I'd appreciate recommendations. I used a SP PPx3 SLAM with a 1964 Mullard 6922 (selected from dozens of driver tubes) and cryo'd 5687s for quite a while using HD600s with SAA Equinox cable. Then I got a a nice raise, and I upgraded to markl modded DA7000s...- budx3385

Is it worth replacing output resistors or just the caps???
Lots of gurus say you can improve the output of any source by replacing old capacitors with Blackgate NXs or better (like Dynamicaps or Mundorfs). What about the series resistors? Aren't they worth upgrading? The Rotel CD player I'm working on has a 100 ohm resistor on each output channel...- budx3385

splitting a dual opamp --- suggestions?
I'm modding a PCM63 based Rotel RCD-971 cd player. It came stock with OPA2604 dual opamps on the output of each channel. I've rolled several dual OPs so far (LM6172, LM4562, AD826, AD8066). Next up is a homebrew 2xAD825 adapter. I'm wondering about splitting the I/V and buffer sections with a...- budx3385

Can someone please describe SQ for the Sony A808 ???
Please help !!! I would really like to read some HFer comments before ordering this new product from Japan. I am excited about it because it is an 8GB DAP that is flash-based, so it will not have HDD problems and it will have a long battery life. Prior Sony units have had good / mixed reviews...- budx3385

need help with Burson discrete "opamps"
I bought the single channel models to install in my Rotel 965BX (several DIY net-audio mods - see another thread). They sounded lousy at first (weak deep bass, too fast => harsh), then I moved the ground leads from the PCB lug to the RCA ground, which improved the SQ considerably. But they still...- budx3385

clock upgrade for Rotel 965BX works !!!
WOW. I just have to share this experience. I upgraded the clock in my vintage Rotel CD player, and it's now a winner source !!! I bought the Rotel 965BX in 1995. It was my first "audiophile" component, along with an Exposure XV integrated and Epos 11 speakers. The Rotel had good...- budx3385

rotel 965bx - upgrades?
I'm cleaning out the closet, and I was about to post an advert to sell my very first (1994) audiophile purchase, the Rotel 965BX CDP, and I listened to it with my HD600s and PPX3-SLAM, and this classic Bitstream play is really very good! Great soundstage, nice detail, coherent music - just a bit...- budx3385
