Night of the Comet in San Diego this morning
So, it's 8:15AM and I wake up and want coffee. I pull on pants and head out to go to the cafe on the next block for a double hammer head. There's ash covering the front stoop. Ash swirling on the street. Ash covering the cars. It's dark like it's dusk. The sky is black. Everything...- Sol_Zhen

“Digitally remastered” LPs… What the?
Isn’t the whole point of getting into vinyl nowadays to get away from music that’s been messed with digitally? I’ve seen quite a few “digitally remastered” LPs out there and that leaves me scratching my head. What’s the verdict on these suckers? -
A little help locating a thread or link on Dynamic compression
There were a couple threads with links to articles that show via wave-form graphs the growing trend in compressing CDs. I’m looking for a link. Anyone have one? Many thanks. [edit] I searched, but I don't know what terms to use in the search to find these links.- Sol_Zhen

woah. Peter Gabrial had some really good albums.
I always liked some of his singles, but never sat down and listened to his albums. Recently I've been buying his albums on used vinyl... I like. So far, I have Peter Gabriel -1 (the one with the Car on the cover), Peter Gabriel-3 (the Melt cover), Security, and So. Good stuff. -
Vinyl guru question

Should I? (NAD 320BEE integrated)
I was at a local NAD dealer to audition a NAD T752 receiver for someone who doesn't live near a dealer (he wanted my input). Anyhoo, after checking out the NAD and Adcom receivers I checked out the integrated amps and really liked the NAD 320BEE. The price is right. The dealer has an...- Sol_Zhen

Funny thought about the Great NE Blackout and the MD vs. MP3 debate
The poor souls stuck in Manhattan who took their iPods (or other HD mp3 player) with them have dead batteries by now and no tunes. However, the MD users have batteries that are still going strong and they can grove through ‘til the morning (or pop in a AA battery).- Sol_Zhen

Under appreciated horror gem: Dead & Buried.
Blue-Underground just released Dead & Buried on DVD. I don’t know how this fine little horror flick slipped under my radar for so long, but I’m glad I picked up the two disc set the other day. Fantastic. You can read the synopsis on imdb.com or at Blue-Underground’s Dead & Buried page...- Sol_Zhen

"Bubba Ho-Tep" Bruce Campbell fans rejoice!
This is gonna be one bad-ass flick. I'm anticipating it anxiously. View the trailer here. Not only does it feature Bruce Campbell as an aging Elvis impersonator who teams up with an old black guy who thinks he's JFK, but it was written and directed by the guy who directed Phantasm and...- Sol_Zhen

Would buying a used laptop just to install Linux on it be a bad idea?
I’m considering building or buying a cheap desktop box to play with Linux on because I never get around to booting into my slave drive that has RH 8.1. I like playing with Linux, but I feel that I’d be more inclined to do so if I could just use a KVM switch to move between XP and Linux. That...- Sol_Zhen

Trying to switch from blade razor to electric, but feeling the burn.
So I picked up a Norelco Advantage razor (the one that dispenses lotion) to give electric another try. My only previous experience was in high school with a Braun shaver I’d gotten for X-Mas. With the Braun, I had a big issue with razor burn and soon stopped using it in favor of a regular razor...- Sol_Zhen
