    Sansa Fuze and Yuin

My trusty old iAudio7 died recently so I'm in the market for a portable player. The fuze seems to have everything I want. The only problem is I use PK1s. Does anybody out there use this combo? Do they drive the PK1 loud enough? inb4 use an amp

    Non-stocked XO freq

Does anybody know where one can find a low jitter XO at unusual frequencies (between 3 and 5mhz)? For various reasons I don't want to use a divider. I tried Valpey Fisher but theres a 100 order minimum for non-stocked freqs. Tent doesn't do custom freqs. The Kwak clock doesn't seem to have...

    TDA1541A question

To give a bit of background to this question, I'm planning to build a DAC based around the TDA1541A. One of the goals is to have an absolute minimum of jitter. So my clock will be an oscillator going straight to the DAC chip with nothing in between. The connection will be via ethernet to my...

NOS DAC at 176.4 or 192Khz

Are there any NOS DACs out there that can handle 176.4 or 192Khz input? Ideally DIY. I know about the Altmann Attraction DAC but it uses opamps I don't like. Since the Altmann uses the TDA1543 DAC which a lot of other DIY designs use, it shouldn't be too hard to find another design that can...

    Unusual tube amp question

I use an unusual pair of headphones, the TakeT H2 (see here). Since they run on high voltage, normally you need to use the accompanying TR2 transformer with a speaker amp to be able to power them properly. Recently though I modified mine, with the help of Mr Takei, to be able to run off a...

    Calibrated microphone

Anyone know where to get calibrated (flat to within 1dB or better) electret mics? My regular microphone seems to be distorting since I used it as a speaker I will be running some tests on headphones and need a fairly flat and very low distortion mic. Thanks. Edit: this is now a Panasonic...

    Spectrum analysis software

Anyone know of software that can do a spectrum analysis on a signal in very short repetitive time windows? What I'm trying to do is like this: ...except I wanna be able to catch changes within every cycle of a, say, 1300Hz signal, and observe the changes in detail.

    Bypassing soundcard op-amps

Has anyone bypassed the JRC4580 opamps in the Juli@ (or any other soundcard)? The load to the DAC will then be an amplifier which has more than enough gain to compensate for the loss of the opamps. Any advice? Has anyone done this and found an improvement?

4 conductor plug to 3 conductor jack

Earlier tonight I temporarily rigged my balanced M^3 to drive my single-ended PK1 earbuds. After picking my jaw up off the ground and reorienting myself, I decided I had to have a more permanent way of using the M^3 and PK1 together. Since the M^3 drives the Taket H2, balanced GS1000 and...

    Buying headphone drivers

Does anyone know where I can buy individual drivers? In particular I'm looking for good earbud drivers or full size Foxtex microfibre drivers. Thanks for any help. PS: As a extra funtabulous bonus question, anyone know where to buy Dynamat Xtreme Computer in Australia? They seem to only...

    VSonic R02-Pro tips

These are my first canalphones and it seems I have very large ear canals, since the seal is a bit hard to maintain with even the largest/most isolating tips. Anyone know what other tips can be used with these? Especially foam ones. Thanks in advance.

    3-way IEMs

I listen to a lot of bass-heavy music. At high volumes the bass momentarily distort the mids and the rest of the spectrum when it occurs. This doesn't happen with 3-way speakers with seperate subwoofer, midwoofer and tweeter. So, being an IEM noob, could the experts among you recommend the...

    TakeT H2 mod

Using the damping material found inside the cups of some DT-990 (seen here), I cut them into pieces and inserted them between the 'wafers' of the H2 driver (both in the front and the rear, which I couldnt take a picture of). They're the perfect thickness to not only fit but to stay securely...

    Yuin PK1 question

Hi all, I've been using the PK3 with my new iAudio 7 and I'm absolutely loving the sound. In fact, I like it so much that I haven't touched my GS1000 or Taket H2 for 2 weeks. With some EQing, the PK3 produces simply awesome bass with the i7. I also love the soundstage, to my ears it's better...

    Best non-dynamic phones under $300

I'm after a pair of headphones for my brother after my puppy decided his headphones tasted great. I don't want to get a dynamic phone. Apart from that, as long as it's around $300 or less, I'm all ears. This price would need to include everything necessary to run them (unless they can be run...

    iAudio 7 + PK1?

Does anyone here have this combo? I bought the Pk3 to test if I like the Yuin sound, and I'll probably upgrade to the Pk1 if I do. I hear that the amp on the I7 is fairly powerful for a DAP, so can it drive the Pk1 well enough? Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Deep bass without broken legs

I'm planning on getting the iAudio 7 to use while biking. Because I need to hear the cars that are swirving at me trying to kill me (I ride like I own the road - both lanes), so I need earbuds that don't block out noise. But I also crave deep bass. It doesn't have to be bloated bass, but...

Linear Resampling for Winamp or Foobar

Does anyone know a linear interpolation resampler for Winamp or Foobar2000? I found one for Foobar (Secret Rabbit Code), but it crashes when I play FLACs Any help would be very much appreciated. Before someone asks, yes, it must be a linear interpolation resampler. I'm running it at...

    Basshead/flats GS1000 users

The dilemma I had with my GS1k was that I loved the presentation of the bagels, but I also loved the extra bass the flats gave it. The problem was that the flats really suck out the mids and highs with the GS. So they sat in my drawer for a few months, biding their time. Until yesterday. I...

    Test your headphones' speed

While tinkering in Nuendo tonight I made this audio test file. It's a pure kick drum and a high pitched pure sine wave together. The idea is simple, but what I found was that the instruments interfered with one-another severely. That is, when the kick drum hits, the sine wave is muffled...

    Any have experience with GS1000 + C-Pads?

I've been frustrated with how sensitive the bagels are to placement position, and also they're also a bit cramped for my large ears. Because the C-pads are the same ones used on my DT-990, which are uber comfy on me, I want to try them on the GS1k. Has anyone heard the GS1k with C-pads? How...
