    New foam for Sennheiser HD495s

Thanks, they look like they might work. I could cut them to size maybe... I'm having a hard time getting the size though. Amazon says they are 220x180mm which is clearly nonsense.

    New foam for Sennheiser HD495s

The foam pads in my Sennheiser HD495 cans needs replacing. I know they are old but I like them. As you can see they pads are flat. Can't find the replacements in stock anywhere, no surprise really. Any ideas? The are 90x70mm. Could I use foam for speaker grills? Does someone make headphone...

    Affordable DAC for computer use

Small update after having it for a month. Still very happy. Manages to tame my Fischer FA-011s highs, and everything else I've thrown at it.

    Affordable DAC for computer use

I went for the Topping DX1 Mini in the end. Arrived today, initial impressions are good. I compared its headphone output to my HEADFIVE and I'd say it's very nice. A little bit more relaxed perhaps, but only very slightly. The DAC part compares well to my old Onkyo card, and doesn't feel...

    Affordable DAC for computer use

Thanks Deleeh. I actually did have a pretty high end set-up at one point, AT-W5000s and various other cans. I just found I kept coming back to the lower end stuff. How about the TOPPING DX1 Mini? It has both a headphone amplifier and line out, so I can try the headphone amp and if it's no good...

    Affordable DAC for computer use

Thank you everyone, some interesting suggestions there. Two for the Modi. I see the current model is the Modi+, I guess the same recommendations go for that too or is it not as good? One thing that seems good about the Modi+ is that it is powered from USB. I'd rather not bother with a plug in...

    Affordable DAC for computer use

I upgraded to Windows 10 recently and my old soundcard, an Onkyo, stopped working. No drivers. On-board sound seems to be broken. I decided to get a Nobsound ES9018 / ES9023 PD01 off eBay. It's okay but sounds a bit "thin" compared to my old set up. I don't know what the issue is exactly, maybe...

Under-desk headphone hanger that doesn't damage the band

Thanks. I've given this more thought and the type that can go under the desk, like Hiker's or the one I posted as an example, seems like the best option. I can tuck it away then. I was thinking I'd screw it in, but I like the idea of a clip that I can move.

Under-desk headphone hanger that doesn't damage the band

Does anyone know of any under-desk hangers for headphones that don't damage the band? Most of the "clothes hook" type ones have a small contact area that is made of hard plastic, so you end up with an indent in the middle of the headphone band. They often come with adhesive pads too, which...

Replacements for my Sennheiser HD 495s - good, comfortable light weight cans

My Sennheiser HD 495s are worn out. The pads are crumbling and you can't get replacements anywhere, so I'm looking for replacements.   I like the 495s because they are light and open, but sound pretty good. Not expensive either. Looking at the current Sennheiser range they don't seem to do...

Good USB or PCIe soundcards for bit perfect optical and ideally line out

The Musiland 03 looks ideal. Bit perfect, USB, switches bit rate automatically when WSAPI exclusive mode is used.

Good USB or PCIe soundcards for bit perfect optical and ideally line out

I have a Windows 7 PC with an Onkyo PCI soundcard, based on the Via Envy chipset. I feed it into a C.E.C. DA53 DAC via optical which I'm happy with. Problem is newer mobos are starting to ditch PCI and space is an issue, so I would like to go either PCIe or USB. One thing that annoys me with...

Noise cancelling headphones that are comfortable with a pillow

I have a couple of pairs of noise cancelling headphones (both Audio Technica) and find they don't work very well when I try to lie back in my seat with an inflatable pillow. One ear always ends up too near the pillow for them and they come off.   I'm not a huge fan of in-ear monitors in terms...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

Quote:   Quote:   I will have to see if I can try those two then. I have heard good things about the HE-500 in particular, but worryingly they are the same things I hear about the W5000s. Fantastically extended bass, but maybe a bit recessed. The Ultrasone Pro 900s piqued my...

Budget... Well, if cans are good I will save up and get them. I think the W5000s were the most expensive I ever bought. Say £500/$1000 tops, but feel free to suggest anything.   Open is fine, comfort is import to me but noise pollution isn't :-)   Thanks.

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

Hi everyone.   I have been looking for an upgrade to my Sennheiser HD495s for years, but just can't find the right pair of cans. Their bass is fantastic, powerful but not boomy, and overall the sound is smooth but not dull or unexciting.   I can hear the limitations of them though. My...

Bass on my HD650's seems to be lacking..?

I have been comparing my HD650s with my beloved HD495s and W5000s. Amps used were an AT-HA5000 (very handily has two outputs for easy comparison!) and a Kasuga KA-10SH (tubes). The HD650s do seem a bit weak, it has to be said. They are well known for being laid back and there is no way I'd say...

New Pads and Many Hours: The Ultrasone Edition 10, Take Two

Have you considered returning them for a refund? I know that audio being highly subjective it is hard to claim manufacturing defects, but this certainly sounds like it qualifies.

    Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread

Thanks for the tips guys, sounds like a different amp is required. At the moment I have a HA5000 and Kasuga KA-10SH (tube) that I primarily use and they both work well with my 495s. It's so hard to buy 'phones like the HD800s because of this requirement and being unsure if you will need to...

    Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread

I have been looking at getting some HD650s and kept seeing the 800s, so decided to give them a listen. I have to say I was not that impressed. The amp was a Black Cube Linear and I tried various 70s rock and some jazz tracks. They were damn good, don't get me wrong, but worth four times as much...

Kasuga KA-10SH tube amp kit finished

It isn't available anywhere except from Kasuga as far as I know, and they only ship to Japan. I could get you one and mail it over in January. The Mk II is out now and incorporates a popular mod: 6.35mm sockets for the headphones. Additionally the case is a bit longer and the 3.5mm input socket...

Kasuga KA-10SH tube amp kit finished

Okay, some initial thoughts on the sound after a few hours listening. The amp has around 90 hours burn-in on it. Source is FLAC files played in Foobar with bit-perfect optical out via an Onkyo PCI 200 series card into a C.E.C. DA53 DAC. The DAC is set to x1 oversampling (i.e. none), soft digital...

Kasuga KA-10SH tube amp kit finished

Yes it is output transformer coupled. I am going to give it some serious listening this evening and tomorrow now that it has as reasonable amount of burn-in on it. I had a listen to the demo one in the shop though and thought it was pretty good, so I have high hopes.
