    Shure SRH1540 Review

Just putting in my two cents:   I've owned lots of great headphones and nowadays I wind up listening to these srh1540s more than any of them. That includes the Audeze LCD-2s and the Sennheiser HD600s, my other two favorites.    I think the srh1540s are Shure's best headphones to date, and...

Shure announcing new SRH1540 in Tokyo today! - Head-Fi TV

My pair just arrived also. My initial impressions are good--definitely an upgrade from the 940's. I will post a more detailed review after break-in and more listening time.

    Woo Audio Amp Owner Unite

What are some good driver/power tubes to pair with the 596? Other than the stock tubes, I've tried the Sophia and 596 rectifier's and a pair of 6EM7 driver tubes for my WA6-SE. I like both rectifiers, but the 6EM7's seem to take away from the sound quality. Not sure if there's something wrong...

    Woo Audio Amp Owner Unite

Btw, I figured I'd post a pic of my relatively new all-Woo setup...this is with stock tubes, I'm waiting till I get the 596's to take a pic with all the fancy tubes. In case anyone is wondering, the headphone stand is great also.

I purchased a 596 from Jack today, he said he's got a few left.

    Woo Audio Amp Owner Unite

Thanks for the info about the tubes for the LCD-2. I'm trying to find a 596 rectifier now. I've already purchased and received the 6GL7 tubes + adapters from Jack. Are there any other tubes you guys would recommend to be used with the WA6-SE/LCD-2 pairing that I can try other than the 596/6GL7...

    Woo Audio Amp Owner Unite

Hey, I was hoping someone here might be able to give me a good tip. I'm trying to find tubes for the WA6-SE that pair well with the LCD-2. I ordered the amp with the Sophia rectifier tube upgrade and the stock driver tubes (sylvania 6ew7). I'm finding that my HD600 sounds better than ever, but...

Need Help Choosing between 3 DACs

I need a new DAC and I could use some guidance. I wish I could audition all of these before buying, but I am unable to, so I'd like to hear some of your opinions. So far these are my top 3 (in no order):   1) Musical Fidelity M1-A DAC 2) Schiit Gungnir 3) Music Hall 25.3   I'm using...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

can anyone recommend an amp/cable upgrade to my current setup:   HD600 + Little Dot MKIII   I was thinking of selling the Little Dot and perhaps picking up a different amp that is a better match to the HD600. I see tons of people on this forum using Schiit gear. I'm open to any brand...

    Affordable balanced headphone amps?

Can someone please provide a summary of the balanced headphone amp options on the market that fall under the category of "affordable"? I'd like to know if there are any that cost less than the headroom ultra balanced amp, and I'm especially interested in a balanced tube amp. An amp is...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

It sounds like there are layers of sound missing from the hifiman he500's that I can hear in the HD600's though. Also, overall I am honestly just amazed at how lackluster these headphones sound right now...not only do all the reviews suggest that they are god's gift to the headphone world, but...

For any of those that have the HE-500....   I received my pair of HE-500's a few days ago, and so far they haven't quite lived up to my expectations. They actually sound a little weird. I'm wondering if something is wrong with them, or my setup. I have them connected to a little dot mkiii...

The best $1500 Bang for buck headphone rig in 2012

The only ones I tried were the d5000, and I found them to have a very unique, almost artificial sound, albeit a sound that clearly tries to cover all of it's bases--the lows/mids seemed very different than the highs to me. So different that they bothered me a bit, and the lack of cohesion...

Any good headphone stores near NYC?

Depending on what you are looking for, there may be a few places that fit the bill. I was personally looking for a place that had some of the extra-unique stuff, but B&H has a surprising variety of decent headphones to demo, including the HD800 and several others...not a great amp/source though.

Quote:   How would you compare the sound of the HifiMan and Audeze to the HD600? I've been listening to the HD600 for a few hours now, and the more I listen to it the more I like it.   In case anyone cares, here's my impressions of the HD600: When paired with tubes, I found that the...

The best $1500 Bang for buck headphone rig in 2012

This is kind of a random comment but somewhat relevant...Does anyone else think that the Denon dk000 series gets way too much praise on this site?   I've always been a fan of accurate, musical headphones that faithfully represent the recording, but after reading thread upon thread of high...

I agree, that would be it's best chance for success. In my vision, I was picturing it being more of a failing venture.

Recommendation for an upgrade from the Little Dot MKIII?

I've heard a decent amount of headphones, and I think the SRH940's are very good. I haven't found anything that I like a lot better yet, without spending 1k+. However, I am also looking at other headphones--possibly an orthodynamic pair. That aside, I think a better amp might make a significant...

Recommendation for an upgrade from the Little Dot MKIII?

I currently own the Little Dot MKIII, which I have done some tube rolling with, and although it was a great buy for the money, I've gotten to the point where I am a bit bored and am looking for better sound. I'm wondering what kind of increase in performance I could get by upgrading to a better...

Any good headphone stores near NYC?

I was hoping that maybe there was some new niche, hipster-run headphone store somewhere in or around Manhattan with really high end stuff--something I'd expect to see pop up in Williamsburg since the rent is lower, and everyone there seems to think they are a music producer. It's a shame there...

Any good headphone stores near NYC?

I should have mentioned that my aim is to find a place that has them on display, for listening. B&H does have a decent amount, but not for auditioning. J&R doesn't have a lot of very high end stuff. And all those audio stores typically only carry Grado, Senheiser, and sometimes theyll have an...

Any good headphone stores near NYC?

Does anyone know of any stores, old or new, that carry a good selection of high-end stuff? Let me be clear, I've been to B&H and most of the popular audio stores in NYC. They all carry the typical stuff--grado's, sennheisers...B&H has a decent selection of some other brands but all hooked up to...

The best $1500 Bang for buck headphone rig in 2012

Beating the dead horse here a bit, but I wanted to respond to the SRH940 vs. HD650 comments...   Let me first say that I like the HD650 a lot. However, I've heard the newest version of the HD650, and I'm still not quite sure how anyone could say that the SRH940 is warmer sounding. I don't...

The best $1500 Bang for buck headphone rig in 2012

Quote:   SRH940 warmer than the HD650? To me, the HD650 sounds much warmer. I'd say the HD650 and SRH940 aren't very far apart from each other--but the SRH940 is brighter, has more detail, and clearer highs (sometimes harsher highs).   Regardless, I don't believe the SRH1840 is...
